Hi,
Just wanted to say a few lines, don't know what is wrong with me yet, but have numbness, pins & needles, tingling etc for about 3 -4 mths. GP wasn't too bothered and i've had to write & ask to be referred for tests.
Its really scary and i'm frightened. Reading the members posts have been of great help to me. There are so many lovely people on this site.
I only hope that i can be of some help to others too.

Welcome to bt if I were you I would ask for a second opinion. Jess
PS I would try not to worry though anxiety can make these things worse

Welcome to BT Diane. I hope you'll read the threads about B12 on the vitamin forum. Try not to worry too much, stress isn't gonna help. Question: are you consuming any aspartame products? Are you taking any meds? Have you had your blood sugar tested?

Welcome to BT Diane this website is as close and personal as knowing your people at church. We all can relate to one another and wil give advice to check "stuff" with your MD. One of the most important thing to remember that your are your best advocate and don't let the insurance companies "jerk" you around. Keep in touch.

Thanks to those who replied, it means a lot to me, this does seem to be one of the more helpful support sites, still waiting for my neuro consult, bit of a waiting list. i'm taking vit supplements and have tried to cut sweetners from my diet, i was taking a lot. Does anyone know how long it take nerves to recover if it was a vitamin deficiency? Do they recover?
Thanks all

Hi Diane,
Welome to our family. I had a lot of problems in the past with pins and needles in my hands and feet and some numbness due to taking anti-epileptic drugs. My neuro had me start taking an over the counter multivitamin w/minerials everyday and it helped a lot pretty quick. My meds where causing nerve damage from vitamin and mineral deficiencies. AEDs are well known for that.

Well I just want to point out that you may wait weeks/even months to see a neuro & still not get any definative answers.......I suggest you keep a journal of all symptoms. Also cut out ALL the sugar subsitutes.Check the labels on the vits you take,if there's aspartame throw them out.
If you have any family or friends with diabetes, ask to test your blood sugar. People don't just suddenly become diabetic,we just suddenly are told we are.
Did you research B12 Methylcobalamin? (When you do get that referral the neuro will have your B12 tested, however you can get your reg doc to do that also I'd think?)
How is your spine/neck? Maybe a pinched nerve?
Are you a heavy drinker? Alcohol can cause nerve damage.
there's lots of possibilities, hope you do find some answers. Also hope you have good insurance, neuro testing is very expensive.

thanks for replying, the diary is a good idea, as the symptoms vary day to day. I'm not diabetic, nor do I drink excess alc, but i'm not a good eater so maybe vit/min defy is a likely cause, hope it nothing more serious and can be repaired. Fortunately i live in the uk so free nhs, still a hugh waiting list though. I'm prepared that i may not get the answer, but at least if they can rule out MS etc i'd feel a lot better.
How are you doing?
Diane
