View Full Version : What might this be?

I've been having moments where I apparently blackout, sporadically blurring vision and now what I think is called aphasia. I've been in school, sitting in class, and all of a sudden 10-15 minutes have passed and I've only blinked. Other times, my eyes will just seem to lose focus for about 5 minutes before returning as normal. And I don't wear/need glasses. Lately, I've been forgetting words or even how to spell and rarely, how to read. The concept of math is slipping as well. I'm in college level classes right now and have had relative ease without even trying, whether it's doing Calculus or reading Jane Eyre in 3 hours. Lately, I'm struggling to get through a paragraph or do Algebra. They think I might be having absence seizures. Could that do it?

If you're "passing out," you're having more than absence szs. Have you seen a neurologist or had a CT or MRI yet? If not, I'd do that. (Get the CT/MRI first. If it shows anything abnormal, you should get to a neurosurgeon, but take one step at a time.)
Good luck!

My daughter had similar symptoms, including the aphasia. Some of it was actually migraines due to dilation of blood vessels - swelling in her brain. This is not benign. It raises the risk of stroke.
Some of it may have been partial complex seizures. An EEG did not show it, but that does not rule it out, and antiseizure medication did work for some of it. CoQ10 helped her type of migraine (pediatric-onset).
It was only later that she was found to have several other things wrong. Whatever. She is now off the antiseizure med (after 8 years) and they have not recurred.

Dear Jeffreeds,
I’ve been going through the same things but with some extras, I posted my problem 1 week ago, the only thing you can do is get an MRI. I’m having mine tomorrow so crossed fingers here.
I graduated from a very good high school and excelling grads, but since a year ago I can’t focuses and even failed a basic math exam leading me to drop out of some of my classes. I even failed my university entrance exams for engineering, so I know how you feel.
Don’t worry get the MRI tell you doctor it will all work out and I’ll tell you how mine goes tomorrow
