Steve's, or anyone can you tell me anything about the "New/old" med Savella. Yesterday my PM prescribed it for my Fibro. He said it is an old SNRI recently approved for Fibro.
I have read what I could find online, but would like to know if anyone has had any experience with this drug?
Thanx in advance,
Kathy

This drug has been in use in other countries. I attended a chronic pain seminar
that mentioned this two years ago, as being in the US FDA pipeline.
The lecturer was positive about it, but I have seen some posters since then comment its side effects were considerable.
This is a Medscape article about it from several years ago:

In it studies did not show sterling results.

Thanks Mrs.D, I read it was apprved by the FDA in January this year. I am going t talk with my shrink about it as I take ther AD's, Effexor and Trazadone. I don't want to upset the apple cart so to speak. I would really like to have better relief for the fibro though. So, we shall see!
Thank you again!

The marketing will be geared to tell doctors that it is similar to Cymbalta (on label) and Effexor and Pristiq (off label) as far as Serotonin and Norepinephrine reuptake inhibition. The milnacipran (www.savella.com) is more norepinephrine than serotonin. This is just how they are going to market it towards docs to make it different than the other existing agents. It's just good to have another option on the table. As it will be when sodium oxybate makes it to market.

Steve's Thank you both! :) Maybe this will work better than the Cymbalta, which just made me sick.
Now I just have to wait, no big deal right now;)

Steve, isn't sodium oxybate just Xyrem? Isn't that already on the market?

Watch the video. This drug is dispensed only thru special outlets via the mail.
It is approved for narcolepsy.
Perhaps with time, off label uses will occur.

Restoring normal sleep typically improves pain. There are other ways to do this however, that are less expensive.
The person I talked to about Savella was in one of the trials, and did not like it.
Savella has been available in other countries for a while now.
