EXPERT OR PHARMA SHILL? (http://ahrp.blogspot.com/2008/12/expert-or-pharma-shill.html) The New York Times Articles (http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/380)

The stench of corrupt practices by psychiatry's peer anointed "experts" is now a matter of public record. So is the cover-up by elite academic institutions.
Earlier this year, Congressional investigators discovered that Dr. Joseph Biederman, a world-renowned child psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, had failed to report to Harvard at least $1.4 million in income from drug companies, in violation of the university's conflict-of-interest guidelines.

The company also drafted a scientific abstract on Risperdal for Dr. Biederman to sign - as if he were the author - before it was presented at a professional meeting.

Congressional investigators also recently reported that Frederick Goodwin, an influential psychiatrist who has been hosting a popular weekly program on public radio, earned at least $1.3 million by giving marketing lectures for drug makers who potentially stood to benefit from the recommendations he made on the program. He has rightly been removed from the air.

Psychiatry being an authority based operation, certain doctors can be called leaders of psychiatry. Also, they frequently call themselves this - so that we'll know. Leaders of Psychiatry (also known as Psychopharmacology) include Frederick Goodwin, M.D. (who as NIMH head was given authority to perform harmful human experiments on adolecent children), Donald Klein, M.D. an ivy league professor and an author of professional books on diagnostic and treatment protocols, and "renowned medical authority" Mark. S. Gold, M.D. (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Mark++S.+Gold%2C+M.D.+%22Good+News%22&btnG=Search)

These people are higher level players in Psychiatry who act in conjuction with others in the universities, drug comapnies, F.D.A. and other agencies.

Authoritative (http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Public_Relations/Question_Authority_TUWE.html) leadership is a propaganda concept which can work if one has both a means of force and violence, and the ability to promulgate the idea that someone is an authority, a leader, in venues such as university classrooms, books and other literature.

Being "professors" doctors" "authors" "heads of departments" means that they have both force and venue.

Psychiatry as propaganda and the stance of "authoritative leadership" as a technique seen in this propaganda operation - is seen in the way Talaga, Preston and O'Neal presented themselves to the profession and the lay public in a manner as if Donald Klein, M.D. "handed them the ball."

The aging Klein has been the professional lead authority - the haughty professor- who makes wide-visibility professional commentary and writes in a commanding voice books for psychiatric professionals and books for the general pop. Then, one year, these three people Talaga, Preston and O'Neal produced a book for the pubic and another professional book in the same 'leadership voice' as Klein. They will just tell the public and the profession how it is, because they are the experts (http://www.prwatch.org). The question here being, who are these people? How come they're the expert leadership all of a sudden? Where did they come from?
And the real question is who is Dr. Klein, and then Dr. Mark S. Gold ("distinguished professor," "pioneering biopsychiatrist") riding on the wave of the new age of biopsychiatry (http://http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22the+New+Age+of+Biopsychiatry%22+Mark+Gold&btnG=Search), basking in the golden dawn of psychopharmacology (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dawn+of+psychopharmacology+Klein).

The authority is the author who writes that they are the authority - especially when an armed bad supports them and they wear special clothes and abuse others who can't counter control them. The simian heirachy of amoral violent balderdash. Biopsychiatry (pseudo-diagnosis, pseudo-theory, psychopharmacology, ECT, and Psychosurgery) is asylum medicine for all 1 (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22Asylum+Medicine+for+All%22&btnG=Search) The New Dark Ages (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22critical+psychiatry%22+%22David+Ingleby%22++% 22pharmacotherapy+and+ECT%22) .

Klein stood as the stern professor with us as mere students or zero-standing-U.S. citizens in the general population. Mark Gold then followed with numerous happy-expert books on the value and particulars of drugging people in this Good-News modern-age of breakthrough neurotropic drugging agents as psychological therapy.

And then more followed on the propaganda-principal that if anyone can hold this 'authority voice' possition - then someone shall - whoever is picked at the planning department and appropriately packaged.

Joseph Beiderman, M.D. leads Biopsychiatry from an Ivy (very expensive buildings with Ivy on them) League post. In recent years he has had the job of telling, from an authority standpoint, clinical drug-prescribing psychiatrists that the bipolar diagnosis (a DSM word test, behavioral observation based diagnosis-by-professional of a syndrome... or a deviation from normalcy... or a disorder... or, a disease, of not completely understood etiology,,, a brain-disease...whatever... A Diagnosis/ both legal and billable) that the bipolar-diagnoses really needs to be applied to very young children, since we want to give them the right diagnosis. And with diagnosis, of course, automatically, without question comes treatment in the form of Patented drugging agents.

One might think that since they are children and just starting down a long physiological/mental and social developmental path one should use targeted diet and supplements (http://www.blogcatalog.com/search.frame.php?term=abram%20%20hoffer&id=5f549103c245d61634deeeb9aa6fe537) along with psychosocial approaches (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=psychoses+%22bertram+karon%22&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=) and that would be perhaps effective at that stage to prevent their becoming actually diagnosable as having or being bipolar later on when they grow up, and since they are children with developing vulnerable brains one should actively avoid behavioral-control drugging agents that are toxic to the body and target the nervous tissue.

But in thinking such thoughts one would not be published or have any association with U.S.A. biopsychiatry.

No, the propaganda of psychiatry is clear and self-repeating: if one is diagnosed with any DSM number-category diagnosis then that is what the person is, permanently, and furthermore along with that professionally diagnosed is-ness is the concomitant need for their is-ness, there disorder-of-being to be treated with (multiple) cutting-edge state-of-the-art current scientific, evidence based practice, peer reviewed, foreign toxic neurotropic chemical agents (each patented, by prescription-only, and many with a halogen attached (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=++%22david+healy%22+%22more+potent%22+&btnG=Search) lovingly to the molecule to make it both more potent and toxic.)

This is because thet have the Hippocratic oath to follow and they would not want young children not to receive the most appropriate medical diagnoses and currently available therapies.

And yes, where was I... Doctor Beiderman had his wrist slapped recently as well.

Psychiatrists in the U.S. have the dubious distinction of prescribing a "variety" of toxic drugs for children. They prescribe these drugs without evidence of these drugs' safety for children or benefit. The latest dubious diagnosis popular among U.S. child psychiatrists alone is "bipolar disorder"(a.k.a. manic-depression)--a "disorder" not diagnosed in children before the aggressive marketing of the second generation antipsychotic drugs-e.g. Zyprexa, Risperdal, Seroquel.

A field lacking respect and intellectual rigour

"It is essential to situate the writings of scholars such as Foucault and Szasz in historical context, to understand them as a reaction, in part, to the rise of biological psychiatry. Until the mid-20th century, the discipline’s claims to science were tenuous. Psychiatry lacked the standardized nosology, scientific rhetoric, and heroic success stories of other medical specialties. It also lacked prestige. Canadian psychiatrist Heinz Lehmann, the first North American to publish on the effects of chlorpromazine and imipramine, recalled how, in the 1930s his father chafed at his son’s choice of fields. Psychiatry in 1930 was “a rather derelict career. People only went there if they couldn’t do anything else—or were alcoholic” (12, p 16;13). Many psychiatrists have shared with me their impression that before the biological turn, psychiatry was regarded as a field lacking respect and intellectual rigour (14)."

But Dr. Judith Rapoport, a senior investigator in child psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health, said that in her experience, few children were overmedicated. Dr. Rapoport studies children with schizophrenia . Before entering her study, children must be drug-free for three weeks."We've had a handful of cases who are completely normal when they get off drugs," Dr. Rapoport said. "But most of these kids become very, very sick and unmanageable without drugs."

The first psychiatric problem diagnosed in most children is attention deficit disorder, treated with stimulants - drugs that improve attentiveness. But when children's problems persist, parents' relatively good experience with stimulants often convinces them to agree to try other medicines - in some cases drugs like the antipsychotic Risperdal or the anticonvulsant Depakote that have few proven benefits in children and greater dangers, said Dr. Ranga Krishnan, chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioral science at Duke University.

"After you get them on one drug, parents don't seem to mind the second," said Dr. Krishnan, who said that he had grave doubts about the growing use of psychiatric drug cocktails in children.

An investigation launched last year by Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa found government-funded physicians at universities like Harvard and Emory have frequently failed to disclose consulting receipts, stock holdings, and other conflicts-of-interest with drug makers as they research and discuss products.
