UPDATE FROM ALI:
Lauren had an upper GI and small bowel follow through exam done today. To do this, she has to drink barium and they watch it progress through her upper gastrointestinal tract and bowel. They started the test at 11:30AM and, at 8:00PM, it still hadn't progressed through! Go figure, an obstruction exists somewhere in her gut, poor kid.
She grew out a bacteria called VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus) in her urine. The only good thing about this is, THE ROOMMATE FROM HELL got booted out of her room, yeehaw! Most likely, she will have no more roommates unless they, too, have VRE.
Ali said Lauren has put on 8# this week and looks like she would pop if you stuck a pin in her abdomen, quite a lot of pain, on Morphine and Tylenol with Codeine, getting both Phenergan and Zofran for nausea and still puking.
She is on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) through her port so that she does not become malnourished. She is still having fluctuations in her blood sugar due to the high glucose content of the TPN.
Ali was at Ronald McDonald House for tonight. She is exhausted and ready to take a long soak and get a good night's rest, hopefully.
She spoke highly of Bill and his efforts during this ordeal. He is still dealing with his own fracture, three sick children, trying to work and also bought Ali a new living room set while she's been gone!
That's all for now. She has an I-phone and said she types like Helen Keller on a good day, so she still has her sense of humor. Not expecting any intervention this weekend, as nothing happens in hospitals on the weekend, or so it seems...
