Sally Girl

My daughter took Amoxicillan one time in her life nine years ago and ended up in the ER hours later with whole body swelling and hives. So that one episode was diagnosed as an allergy to Amoxicillan.
Fast forward to today...her current neurosurgeon asked me today about her history with Diamox. It was not good--worsened head pain the eight days she took it. She went on Lasix next, and she was blacking out on that. Spironolactone was ok, for the short time she took it.
Her history--Chiari decompression in 2005. Two elevated lumbar puncture readings in 2006 (32 and 42) and a diagnosis of Pseudotumor Cerebri. A two month trial of the diuretics until being shunted with an LP shunt.
Impossible to treat head pain for nine years. On massive doses of opioids.
A Chiari revision surgery last November. Her LP shunt was tied off nine days later. Another LP in December revealed low pressure. Her shunt was removed on Monday of this week. Her neurosurgeon found CSF leaking behind her shunt before he removed it. He stitched up her dura.
Who knows how long she had been leaking (maybe for two years).
Her already horrid head pain has been increasing every day since he removed the shunt. He said today she may be leaking from the surgery site. I have been fearful she is a "leaker" period. Leaking from every puncture and surgical site. For several months she has been leaking fluid out her eyes, nose, and ears. But it would take a consult with a "leaker expert" in CA to sort through all of that.
Her neurosurgeon also is considering the possibility that she swinging into high pressure (back into Pseudotumor Cerebri). So he is entertaining the thought of putting her on Diamox. He plans on ordering an LP in a few weeks, I believe.
He told me today that neither Lasix nor Spironolactone lower intracranial pressure. True or false?
And finally my question--is there any reason to worry about her taking Diamox when she has this allergy to Amoxicillan?
Just want to check with the experts here.
Thank you!
Cheryl
