It's about time.
I see 5 little old ladies every week coming in on Darvocet because of their PCP not wanting to use a more addictive drug.
Show me some data folks....
All opioids have addiction potential and it is believed to be equal.
Few opioids have toxic metabolites (Darvocet and Demerol).
If somebody hurts bad enough to need opioids, why not make it one that works. I'd much rather these little old ladies with compression fractures (mostly) take some hydrocodone or oxycodone. At least they have a chance of pain relief.

Dr. Steve, I personally agree as that med had never worked for me but it has been the only pain med my husband could tolerate. If you don't mind I'd like your advice. He very rarely has ever taken meds for anything but he's having some dental work done in the upcoming months, and it's pretty extensive. He has a bridge now but he is having the surgery where they drill into the bone and then screw in permanent teeth (sorry, can't think of the correct name for it). My dad had it and said it was really painful.
Years ago he was given hydrocodone and he got real bad itch feelings and had nausea and vomiting(sorry if tmi), a few years ago he was given percocet from a bad dog bite and he had nausea and he said really weird dreams. He has always used darvacet so I'm not sure what they can give him but the percocet and maybe something for the nausea. I just know he's going to need something and I don't want him to have to be sick while he's taking it for the pain. If you have any other ideas the info's appreciated, thanks!!

Either Percocet or Lortab. But get Phenergan 25mg 1/2 hour before the pain med so the N/V side effect doesn't show up. Also, 12.5mg Benadryl can knowck out the itch. None of what you said is allergy, they are very common side effects of pain meds. They also go away after 1 wek of use, unlike constipation.

Dr. Steve LOL:eek:, he will love that! Thanks for the info, we'll make sure to ask for phenergan which I think he has some from his inner ear issues and we of course have benedryl(which we actually use more for the dogs!).
Thanks!
Melissa
