Carrie,
I too have lost a lot of my memories of my childhood and teen-age years. I am forgetfull about things that I have just been told. No matter how hard I try I just can't remember. I really hate that!

My childhood was not the greatest, I just remember a lot of fighting, small fragments that make no sense. I can't even remember the date that my BF proposed. I feel bad about that!

I write myself a lot of notes. My calender is full of little notes. I even have to keep notes of who I post to, so I can keep everyone straight!

I have no real answer for you but I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers . I will write it down so I don't forget!

Dream Big, Javi

Carrie, I've also lost many memories. I've been dealing with health issues for the past 10 yrs after being bit by a spider, and shortly after diagnosed with diabetes type 2. I won't go into all the tests, different doc's,etc. but through my own extensive research I concluded that the huge amounts of aspartame I began consuming (on doc's advice!), was frying my brain.

My brain MRI showed lesions, some doc's told me possibly MS or Parkinson's. For a long time I thought I had Lyme disease (many of my symptoms matched).

A year ago I cut out the aspartame! I also started taking B12 a few years ago.

I've had great progress in some areas, especially my brain! Hard to look back now & think of how I had such violent myoclonic jerks that I considered myself a freak & became reclusive. I couldn't remember my own name! Nor my phone number, address, etc. I couldn't follow a recipe. I had to write notes for everything. Numbers were a big issue,I messed up my taxes,my checkbook, etc. I'd read a book & then forget what I'd just read.

Nowadays I seldom have any jerking. I can actually carry on a conversation without stumbling over the words or getting them backwards, etc.

Not one doctor ever helped me so I gave up on them! All I did was take B12 & read label's to make sure I wasn't consuming aspartame. Heck I chewed sugar free gum all the time & how's that for getting into the brain?

I just want you to realize you're not alone & that something is causing this. Might be up to you to figure it out.

I still have many health issues but at least now I have seen improvement with the neuro nightmare! And of course knowing we are not alone in some issues helps more than anything.

thanks guys.

i had ECT 10 years ago when i was 17 and i still beleive today that at that age it did some mega damage to my developing brain.

cos im blind making notes isnt as easy as it used to be but im waiting for a talking organiser that i can keep a diary, make notes, voice memos and more.that should make things easier for me.

i had a brain mri last month and the results were fine so i dont think its anything like parkinsons or ms.

i guess i just wanted to find out if i was alone not haaving any past memories and living in the present all the time.

What is ECT? Are you totally blind? Can you see how pretty you are? I have diabetic retinopathy & going completely blind is my biggest fear!

I tend to think some of our memories from the past do more harm than good myself. Some things are best forgotten!

I can't remember any of the details of my life before age 47, when my grand mal seizures were controlled. The neurologist who finally found the medication to control my seizures told me seizures caused my memory loss. I've done a lot of studying on memory loss and, according to a research team in the United Kingdom, it looks like I lost a certain kind of memory. Rather than go into all that, the best way to describe it is to say that if I were a computer, my hard drive was erased when I was 47. I'm still fine physically and mentally--I just don't have 47 years worth of memories.

When you can't remember the job experience you've had, that creates a very bad effect. It's hard to convince potential employers that you're smart or trainable; they seem to think people with memory loss are stupid.

Did anyone diagnose you for epilepsy?

You might want to get tested for sleep Apnea. It could help if you have it. They have found people of all ages are prone to it. And it does effect memory formation which is may be a reason of your past memory loss. Just a guess?
