i was wondering if anyone here has had or who has know someone with dcis. as i was recently dx with high grade dcis, comedo type. thank you rasquel

Hi Rasquel,

I don't know much about this type of breast cancer (mine was different) except that this is the type my sister was diagnosed with in late 1999. She "chose" to have a single mastectomy without chemo or radiation treatments. She continues to be cancer-free today.

after a partial mastectomy and node removed. it turned out not to be dcis but benign fat narcrosis. :confused:

I had DCIS, which was found to be widely disseminated throughout my L breast. I had a mastectomy with reconstruction. No chemo or radiation. This was in 1995, almost 14 years ago. Have been fine since. Get a mammo done yearly, have also added a breast MRI. Always clean so far.

Hi ~ I was diagnosed with DCIS last March. I had all the tests, etc., and it came back malignant so I had a lumpectomy. I asked the Doctor if she thought we should take the whole breast, and she said "no." So she did a lumpectomy, but after surgery said that she did have to take alot of breast tissue. I figured I look awful after the dressing came off, but was surprised that it didn't look "too" bad afterall. Oh, sure I'm lumpy and have quite a scar, but heck I still have the breast!

This year, I had a mammogram and went to see the Doc and she said "I have bad news for you ~ it's bad. We'll have to take the breast this time." I thought, Oh NO!!! I was devastated!!! This was a morning appt. so I went home and stewed about it all day. She was going to call me later with the appt. times for surgery. I was a wreck. She called me at 5:00pm. and said "You won't believe this, they sent LAST YEARS report ~ you're fine! You don't need surgery at all!" I didn't know if I wanted to kill someone or be happy! I was happy I didn't have to have surgery, but MAD that some dumb butt put me thru hell all day by sending last years report! What an idiot!
