does anyone know the difference between codeine phosphate and dihydrocodiene?

iv been on the phosphate for months from gp but it does nothing for me. my gp refuses to give me anything else for my chronic pain (hypermobility syndrome with CFS)

i was taken into hospital last week and while there they gave me dihydrocodeine. it seemed to offer more relif and i as given a weeks perscription which iv take once or twice this week ( i dont take painkillers other than my regular paracetmol 4 times a day becuase it cause so many tummy probs for me).
i have a note telling my gp to prescribe it for me if i want but just wondered if anyone knows if thers any difference. i dont want to go asking for something else when its just the same thing with a different name.

its the same dose for both and i take paracetamol with them to extend the life of them.

Carrie, the only difference between the two is Dihydrocodeine has caffeine. They both are codeine with Tylenol. Please be careful with the amount you take as Tylenol/acetaminophen in large doses is toxic to the liver.

Good to see you here,
Kathy

Carrie, one of the strange reactions is caffeine improves the pain fighting ability of a medication. That could very well have been the difference you felt between the two medications.
