hi all, my name is nikki and i was just dx with fibro. not too sure whar it is...

i have a brain aneurysm that is being clipped in the begining of the new year.

i have been having health problems way too much lately. dr dated fibro back to 2001 when symptoms first started. im not even sure what the symptoms are or what the condition is all about. in 2001 she dx me with chronic fatigue, and yesterday she said she dosnt know why she didnt put it together sooner?

i also as i said have a 5mm brain annie since may this year, which caused temporary bells paulsy.and im still having vision issues increase of daily headaches and more migranes. also memory and fine motor issues. im tired all the time, i could sleep anywhere any time. and its not just a sleepy feeling, but exaustion. all over. i have been off work since fb as the headaches and migranes and extreme fatigue got really bad really quick. but i still feel like iv been run over by a train.

i am 30 years old and have 2 children 6 and 8 my boys are my life and i love it that way. things have been quite hard on them in the last 2 yrs as iv had 3 opp already and going for the open brain surgery soon.... i had carpal tunnel (1 opp) and big problems with feamale parts (2 opp) i was scheduled for hysterectomy before annie hit and now i have to deal with it for another year. (very painful, 14 day cycles, continual systs, extreme volume) with cycle being at 2 weeks, fatigue is so much worse :(

when my youngest son was born, i had 1 hard contraction then out he came i was in labour (hard) for less then 10 min. i know it sounds nice... but there was severe hemoraging and i lost way too much blood. the reason im saying all that is thats when it all started. iv never been the same since.

with the annie and this then a hysterectomy im forced to ask what the heck next?????

sorry for the ramblings.... just really confused and frustrated....... nikki

It really sounds like you're having a tough time, I'm so sorry. Fibro is tough to deal with but it sounds like you have alot of other things going on. Hang in there as things will get better.:)
I also had a hysterectomy after the birth of my last son and I know how tough the waiting is when you're so miserable. Once the procedure is done you will feel much better.
As for being tired, well I spend everyday feeling like a train came by and hit me. I try to move around as much as possible so that I can keep my energy up, but it's not an easy task. '
Your children will adapt to you being ill so try not to worry too much about them. They love you unconditionally, always remember that.;)
If you ever want to chat send me a PM and we can talk, sometimes that helps. Take care and have a pain free day!! (((((((HUGS)))))))

Hi nikki. I was just diagnosed 2 months ago. It helped me to find some books about fibro at the library. After I read a few, the diagnosis made more sense to me.

I also had several operations for female trouble. Two laparoscopies for endometriosis, and then a hysterectomy 3 years ago, at age 38. My cycles were getting shorter intervals, but increasing volume and length. It was H***, and I don't use that word lightly! The doctor agreed quickly when I said I was ready for a hysterectomy. She also had to take out one ovary. The path report said I also had adenomyosis (sp?), which is another uterine problem. The muscles don't work correctly, which causes too much blood flow and lots of pain. If I'd gotten pregnant with that condition, there's the possibility I'd hemorrage.... thankfully we've got two girls.

I am so sorry for your diagnosis-it seems we are getting younger and younger doesn't it? I mean as diseases and conditions go. I have Fibro-Myofacial Pain and some sort of Connective Tissue Disease-just can figure out what...and all this started when I was in my late 20's.

I'm 33 and I have three children-14-11- and 8. Two girls and boy. For the longest time I was home with them and it was great, I miss it sometimes.

If you want to read up on some info for Fibro I would recommend Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofacial Pain-A Survival Manual from Devin Starlanyl. It is a very in depth book that explains it perfectly-for me it was the perfect book. I think if you went ot the library, you can find it there. I got it at mine and then later on went out and purchased it.

I hope things go well for you and that your health returns to a good level.

Hi Nikki

Welcome, I am new to this also. I really can't offer much except when I first got here someone recommended that I get this book: Fibromyalgia, & Chronic Myofascial Pain. It is the same book Aggscott suggested.

I did and it has been helpful in understanding what Firbromyalgia is all about.

I am sorry you are going through this. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Take Care,
Nancy

If anyone is interested I started taking ACIDOPHILUS(get it at health food store) because I had GERD so bad I was down to eating rice. In one month I was back to eating everything it's been 8 months now. Also for sleeping I went through 4 sleeping pills and found Lunesta 5mg works, with Prozac 20mg this is after 3 years of not sleeping at all to at least 5 hours of sleep. Getting on Thyroid medication has helped sensitivity to cold, but still having night and day sweats. Local injections has helped with TMJ, and a night guard, also getting my bite ajusted. This is what helps me, still have aches and pains especially during PMS, excersise is the only thing that works, massages, and hot baths. Anyone have any good tips to better FMS life?????????????????

Cherie, I really don't have any more suggestions other than the ones I have posted recently. I do think that it is important to consider what has been helpful to others so you can find what works for you. Nothing seems to be universally helpful for all of us, except the standard balanced diet, sleep, avoidance of stress and regular, mild exercise. Cheerio.

Ya know for a while I could not stop singing the praises of Yoga. It really turned my Fibro around for me. Then I did something very stupid and it ruined everything for me. I was put on, at the time, a small dose of Methadone for the chronic pain I have. Well the Yoga and the Methadone for over a year was perfect and I had no pain. It was wonderful! I felt like I had finally found the thing that helped me!

Then I thought that I could get off the Methadone and I put myself in a drug rehab to do it. They promised the world to me and if my pain came back, they would help me. I told them up front that I only wanted to get off the methadone and hopefully, I would not have to take something so strong, and I wouldn't have to take it everyday.-Sure, Sure, they said-let's see if your insurance covers it~ I should have know-I feel like such a fool now...

Well, to say it was the worst thing I could have done to myself is an understatement. I was taken off the Methadone but, after four days of feeling O.K.-BAM! I was hit with the worst pain of my life-
I had no idea what I had done to myself. I had to beg my doctor to please put me back on it, and that was after I had to beg the rehab to let me out-because of course they would not help me-they only wanted to pump me full of Anti-depressant's-I was not depressed~No I was in PAIN!!

To finish this story, I put myself in the worst flare I have ever had-it last so long and it took me so long to get back to myself again...

Any exercise hurt me for the longest time, like I said it was the worst for a long time after that...I stopped doing the yoga and everything went back the way it was.
That was 2001 or 02-I have tried to forget that stupid part of my life...

Now I walk, and do small amounts of yoga and it keeps the muscles from feeling to tight and painful-but nothing like I was doing then. I was doing everything in yoga at that point and now I have to start all over.

So, I don't know what this will show anyone or teach them but, my advice is this-whatever you do, take it slow and steady. Stay at that pace and you'll get there. Don't try to do anything to quick..Like I did~

Yoga is wonderful, BUT, be careful if you are in a class of "normies" because sometimes if you have an uneducated teacher, they will try to "help" you be more flexible. - it is not helpful, it is painful- I actually had some 20 something guy come over to me and try to push me into a harder stretch:eek: I felt humiliated and it hurt!

Just go at your OWN speed and ability, don't worry if you are far different than the other folks in the class, congratulate yourself for BEING there and doing your best- and avoid the "Strength" yoga classes until you have the beginning classes mastered

later I joined a Yoga for seniors class (I was in my 40's) and it was JUST RIGHT!:)

I'm afraid there is a tendency to be so competitive in our society, it can even eat into the peace and health of the practice of yoga, which is meant to be a helpful thing- not a contest

good luck to you

Oh, I forgot to add that! Linda is so right! I didn't go to classes at all-I stayed home and bought or rented my own DVD's. I started with the beginner yoga and stayed at that for a while before moving on.

Linda did you say something to him afterwards, when the class was over? That's not the way yoga is suppose to be and that could have hurt you worse- eveyone at there own pace.

You are so right again-why are we so competitive? Sometimes it can be good thing but, in yoga that's very dangerous..

Hi,

I've had fibro since the early 1990's. One thing I learned is NOT to overdo esp. when you are feeling good. I tried doing "Curves" and it was too much. But you do need to keep your body moving-on a daily basis. Either walking (not running) and/or gentle stretching is good. I was taking a Restorative Yoga class and it really helped. There aren't any where I have moved. I keep busy paddling my kayak in the summer and hike nearly every day. When you feel achy, sometimes a good walk or just stretching your back, legs & arms will help. If it gets bad no matter what I do & I get a migraine too, I take 10 mg Flexeril. Usually 1-2 is all I need.

I am seeing a lot of people post who have FM and have had an aneurysm, which I just had clipped March 2006. Is there a connection? Doesn't it have something to do with fibrin which is also in arteries???

Hello and welcome,

I am sorry you have reason to be here.....

Fibro is often considered a secondary condition that comes about due to an untreated condition or a condition that is also chronic. Seldom will you hear of someone with just fibro.....

It took about 20 years for a doctor to figure out my problem, mine started in childhood....you just learn how to deal with it after a while, and accept some amount of fatigue and pain....However you also learn what triggers a flare and are able to either plan for the flare or do things differently to avoid it altogether.....

The methadone tale is the cautionary tale of chronic pain patients....I live with a certain amount of pain daily because I am more about controlling the severity not killing it altogether in order to avoid ending up on stronger meds....So mild or moderate pain is acceptable for me....However in some ways it is easier since I managed it without pain medication for so many years in my life.....

I call fibro the sensitivity to everything condition because my body is so sensitive to so many things....i can smell dirt, I have excellent hearing, but I also have tinnitus aka constant ringing in the ears, normally this would accompany hearing loss.....

I think I tracked my fibro back to early childhood trauma and sleep troubles. I dream very heavily, I can dream all night sometimes....Therefore I seldom drop into deep levels of sleep, and I have that half in half out sleep issue....A low dose sleep aid is probably one of the best thing me doctor has treated me with.....

At any rate welcome again.....

Its all a matter of learning to manage it.....

Fay
