hello friends!

has anybody here read about the raw foods movement?

the people who follow this diet believe if you heat foods over a certain temperature, it kills all the vitamins and nutrients in them.

i'm still not certain about that, because i know that lycopene, the healthy chemical in tomatoes, is actually more abundant in cooked tomato products than it is in fresh tomatoes.

but, i am interested in the concept of eating raw foods as much as possible.

a restaurant that serves raw foods recently opened in the area of michigan where i live. it is a bit out of the way, but i think i will have lunch there one day.

if anybody has any info or experience with raw foods, please share.

thank you for sharing and caring,
jeannie

Hey Jeannie, funny you asked this question, this afternoon I watched a TV show called The Doctors on ABC. Anyway, they had a guy on there showing how he eats raw chicken, hamburger, sucked an egg out of it's shell, prawns, etc.

I have to say I was a bit turned off seeing him eat especially the chicken. All of the doctors were adamantly opposed this diet vehemently, due to the risks of salmonella,e-coli, and a couple of other things.

Since I saw your post, thought I would share;)

I know this may not be applicable since canines have more stomach acid than we do, but...

We had a dog who had immune problems as a youngster and almost died. The vet thought it was hopeless. Against his advice, we put the dog on a raw foods diet. OK... you would think a dog with a compromised immune system would succumb to the bacteria in the raw foods diet, right? Well... instead she thrived. She healed up.

kathy...lol. i would never eat raw meat. the thought is disgusting *yuk. but, i do think about eating more raw veggies instead of cooking them. i think that is the area i want to explore more.

naomi, i actually read that over-using those hand sanitizing liquids with children blocks their immune system from fully developing, because exposure to bacteria and your body's reaction to it is what builds up the immune system. kind of like, use it or lose it. i'm glad your dog thrived and gave you enjoyment :).

Well there's a "diet" out there for everyone right? I grossed out one day watching people eat raw chicken!

having said that,I figure there's a reason we had the brain power to learn to make fire.

And if you're not used to eating alot of raw food then be prepared for the adjustment. If you think about it we have lots of raw veggies & fruits to choose from.

P.S. My dog eats better than I do! gluten free food only!
