Maybe someone here knows? I remember reading an article that said Topamax would be going generic around September of 08? It didn't happen and I'm still paying the highest co-pays. Does anyone know if that is still in the works to be released as a generic drug?

I know what you mean it's on my top tier at $50.00 for 90 days but topamax works great compared to neurton that made me hungry all the time. I gained 30 pounds taking
that drug. There's one left I called zonegram I think my insurance would not pay for it as
it was too new at the time.I am waiting for generaic for lipitor.

Neuronton did the same to me. 30 pounds! Luckily I'm one of the few and lucky who lose weight on Topamax and lost 65 pounds when I started taking it. I'm trying to KEEP weight on now! On a good day I weigh in at 110 and have to fight not to go lower because I have NO appetite on the Topamax. I force myself to eat and there are times I forget to eat for an entire day, only remembering about 10pm when my hubby jumps all over me asking about why I haven't eaten! I'll be glad when the price drops though. I was positive I saw that it was going generic last year, then read something about the drug companys having it non-generic a little longer because of its epilepsy usage? For me it relieves all of my nerve pain and I am so greateful. I guess eventually the dfrug companies will have to let it be a generic. Isn't there a time frame imposed o the drug companies?

Stetson,
I used to take Lipitor too, I went on Simvastatin (generic for Zocor) just a couple months ago so I don't know what my counts will be at my next visit yet, but here is an article regarding the Rx's.

Lipitor and Zocor: Are they equally effective?
Answer
This is a common and important question. With the high cost of many prescription medications, more people are considering switching to cheaper generic versions of brand-name drugs.
Lipitor and Zocor belong to a class of drugs called statins, which are used to lower blood cholesterol. Zocor (simvastatin) is available as a generic. Lipitor (atorvastatin) is not.
Both Lipitor and Zocor are safe and effective in lowering cholesterol. Lipitor is more potent, with 10 milligrams (mg) of Lipitor equal to 20 mg of Zocor. For most people with high cholesterol, Zocor at a higher dose will be just as effective as Lipitor.
However, if you require 40 mg of Lipitor or greater, Zocor will not be as effective. The maximum dose of Zocor is 80 mg, which is equivalent to a dose of about 40 mg of Lipitor.
Talk to your doctor about whether switching from Lipitor to a generic version of Zocor is appropriate in your specific situation to reduce prescription drug costs. Keep in mind that each of these medications is different, and you may tolerate one but not the other.
