I have read about a residual aneurysm on this site but do not even know what it is. Also after clipping is there a set protocol for any followup care, tests etc? I am so thankful for this site and every person who lists here. You all have been so helpful.

Hey there Magpie :)
I found the Post you may have read in the past - it has some info on it - but maybe we can find out more. http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8438
I guess it does happen - not every time but on some. I gather that's part of the reason for the follow up CT scans and Angiograms.
I hope other people post who have had this happen.

Peggy, You are reading my mind again! :D
I was wondering the same thing. I have read on here a little about them, but I am still unsure. I also am anxious to ask my Dr. tomorrow what the follow up care will be. Like how many cta's or angio's will I have to have. I had one in the hospital before I came home, but is that the last one I will have? Will they keep checking on me to make sure everything is ok or if I get any more? i will post the answers to my questions tomorrow after I get home from the Dr. tomorrow. I should ask Kitty as she and I have the same Dr. ;)
Have a good day everyone!

Hi there a residual aneurysm is where it hasn't been sealed off properly, and I had clips and never had another scan since went back and they looked at my eyes and stuff. Jess

I have to have angiograms for one remaining annie that is small and being monitored. I had one at 1 year after surgery, one at 3 years, and don't have to have another for 5 years. My sister (also had the same doctor as Kim and I) had a clipping and then one angiogram to follow up and that is it for her. I suppose they would probably be found fairly soon and if not, then you are good to go!! I will be interested to hear what Kim finds out from the Dr.

I have a 3 mm residual aneurysm and really haven't been able to find out any answers. The best I can figure out is that a new aneursym has occured at a weak place where the original aneurysm wasn't completely clipped. Nobody mentioned any follow up and I was actually told there wasn't any need to ever worry about it. I insisted on the CTA at a year and that is when they found the residual aneurysm. My doctor said to repeat the CTA in a year after looking at the report, but I am not satisfied with that answer. I a making an appointment to go see the neurosurgeon and asking all of my questions.

Sccanndice,
i agree i would go back to my surgeon, and ask his advice. That is why follow up is so important. Just had my first CTA and all appears normal for me, but we repeat again with a MRA or CTA.
I wish you the best and do what you need to do, but to me a residual is just as important and can be just as dangerous. It is our bodies, and push if you must.
So sorry you are dealing with this again
