Hi All,
Do you know if any company other than Mallinckropt manufactures a generic oxycontin? I have not had good luck with Mallinckropt generics and am not happy about being on their generic oxy.

I just restarted Oxycontin yesterday after years of being off it and that was the generic they gave me, said it was the only one they had. I would think Purdue would make their own generic but don't know.

Thanks, Diandra

To the best of my knowledge.. there is currently NO ONE producing a generic Oxycodone... there was a lawsuit over a patent violation and the generics in pipeline were not recalled... all productions was just stopped.. You did not mention it...but I suspect that you needed one of the higher doses (80mg) that is not used that much and the pharmacy had some stock remaining from before the lawsuit...

There were rumors that one or more of the chains "stocked up" on the product when the outcome of the lawsuit was announced... generally the smaller mgs tabs went pretty quick..

according to this http://www.news-medical.net/?id=19717 that was two years ago.. I don't know the exact expiration date of the product ..but .. I would think that particular product should be approaching it expiration date... if not already past it...

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the info.
I am on the 20mg dose and the interestingly, the Mallinckrodt(sp?) website lists it as one of the products it manufactures so I think they may still produce it. http://pharmaceuticals.mallinckrodt.com/products/Product.asp?ProductID=5604

I know about the problem with Mallinckrodt manufacturing the generic version before the patent was up and Purdue sued them for it and I thought they forced mallinckropt to stop manufacturing, yet it was my understanding that was only temporary.

Do you know if there is any gov't agency or prescription drug oversight group that I might be able to check with?. I guess ethically, there is nothing wrong with my pharmacy giving me a drug that is no longer produced as long as the reason for stopping production was one of patents and not a problem with the drug itself. Do you agree?

Actually, it is interesting that my pharmacy was able to fill my script immediately....normally I have to drop my script off and pick it up the next day because they said they never keep oxycontin in stock.

Thanks, Diandra

I checked the ORANGE BOOK http://www.fda.gov/cder/ob/docs/queryai.htm and it list Mallinckrodt's product as AB rated (legally substitutable) and it was approved in July 08... but it also states that there is no unexpired patents..

IMO... these statements are contradicting each other...but .. as a Pharmacist with a product in hand... that is not expired .. and is AB rated in the ORANGE BOOK... I know no reason not to dispense

Hello All,

I finally began to receive the brand of the 80's this past month. I was beginning to think that the manufacturer never stopped producing them.

OH, I was getting the 40 mg. tablets as well.
