About three weeks ago, i firt experienced this with my vision. It was as if someone were shaking it a bit and i couldnt focus. It lasted about 5 seconds then I was ok. Well, it happened again last night, same symptoms and I felt like i was spinning almost, hard to tell. It starts by the feeling like my eyes are going cross eyed, then i try to focus and I cannot. My vision is not blurry, I just feel like a camera that is being shaken from side to side. lasted about 7 seconds. I contacted my optometrist and doctor. Have an appt with my doc today. My eye doc says she will see me but she seems to think it is neuro, which SCARES THE HECK OUT OF ME.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am out of my mind right now

Sounds like a condition called nystagmus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nystagmus). Generally, it is neurological in origin although it can have what's called an idiopathic cause, meaning there is no known cause.

Try not to worry too much about it (easy to say, I know). Wait to see what the docs say. I would imagine you will need to go through a series of tests to try to establish the cause. These tests will most likely be neurological ones to try to determine if there is an underlying condition.

right in referring you to a neuro...just to check it out...

A good source is www.Neuroexam.com a site that explains the basics of all that a neuro does and why in trying to find out 'WHAT IS GOING ON?'. Finding out, is a process of excluding many to most things relating to diagnosable neuro conditions.

My own vision problems took me on a trip to a neuro-opthamologist and I went thru rounds of tests to eliminate cardiac, vascular, and a variety of other potential neuro or vision potential problems. In the end, he found nothing...don't give up tho. In my case, the doc actually got to SEE what was going on w/my vision during an 'episode'. He honestly told me that he would not have believed IT, IF he hadn't actually seen IT. Since I've other conditions, it made it more squirrelley in a way. Ultimately, he'd decided it was a 'non-aura migraine'. And the meds I was on already were the best help. My vision issues were intermittent and have lessened substantially since then.

Neuro-opth's are listed under either the neuro-or opth categories of docs....so you'll have to check and double check that aspect by sussing out their training and research, if any.

While it scares the dickens out of you....don't panic if you can help it. Yep, it's scary as heck, you'll only make yourself worse when events happen. It's hard, but you can and have to keep calm. I hope this helps and let us all know what develops. - j

Really difficult not to get scared. Trying not too. I just fear the worst, tumor, etc.

My doctor did the routine questions for some neuro stuff, if I have had any numbness, tingling, etc. Def. not. He checked my eyes, blood pressure, breathing. I am at high risk of retinal detachment, however he thinks that something neuro may be going on. I am going to have an MRI at 6:30 am this friday and am absolutely scared out of my mind.
