Hey everyone,

Hope you all are doing well. I just wanted to share some information that I recently learned from one of my doctors. Turns out that Lithium can cause major complications for patients with RSD. It even affects pain levels! I was on Lithium for Bipolar disorder and my doctor told me to switch to a different medication as soon as possible to see if any of my symptoms are relived at all. However, I have no news to report of any changes yet. The psychiatric nurse practioner I had been going to for almost two years is a total pain in the butt and I suspect she needs medication herself. Would you believe that she would NOT switch my medications? She said it was unnecessary and ridiculous; that physical conditions are not at all affected by mental health! Being a psychology major I know that is a load of crap so I am now in the process of switching to a new psychiatrist. This new psychiatrist actually took the time to talk to my doctor to find out more about RSD which is something the psychiatric nurse practioner wouldn't even do at my request. So far I have a good feeling about this new doc and hope the change in medications proves to be worth while. Hope this can be of some help!

Best wishes,

Jennifer

Jennifer: It seems like this new doctor is willing to help you and to learn as much as possible in order to do so.

Isn't is amazing how many "health care professionals" know so little about health care? It would be great if these people would leave their petty little egos at home and remember that it is all about helping the patient and not at all about proving how smart and important they are.

Good luck with your new doctor. I am glad you found a caring one.

Regards, Lil

Jennifer that is just horrible to hear. If it where me I would report her as soon as possible to your state medical license department. You have rights as a patient and I do believe she violated those rights. Jewells2

Hi,
It sounds like you found a good new doctor. I am taking Lamictal as a mood stabilizer for my bipolar spectrum depression. I haven't been on it very long, but it is not causing any problems with my RSD at this time. Haven't tried lithium.

Best wishes,
Julie
