much about colostomy bags? My nephew had surgery about 6 weeks ago. The stoma is starting to heal itself. The bag isn't working and my sister is beside herself. To make matters worse, she has been telling the docs that Paul is in extreme pain (he is non-verbal) and they just kept pushing drugs. She finally had them take some x-rays and they found that his chest was full of gas. I guess that is not uncommon? Well, anyway my sister is refusing to do another surgery at this point. Does anyone have any experience with this?

about colonostomy bags.. my brother had one done just before he passed away. They do make some that have an escape tube for the gas so it doesn't build up..David too was non-verbal...His didn't stick well to his body so I had to use alot of the duaderm patches to hold it in place..I cut them into smaller pieces and put them all around the bag..He was always moving and muti-jointed so he kind of folded himself in half which caused the bag to detatch..It depends on which type of bag he uses..There are several types..While in the hospital nobody showed me how to attach it all I figured it out myself and David would let me know by either pulling it off or leaving it alone if it was comfortable for him...The surgery was a success but while in the hospital I had to use the bathroom and he had a one to one aide sit with him..I explained to her that he was claustropobic and not to put up both rails and to sit beside him for 10 min... When i got back he was in a wheelchait. It seems doing what i asked of her was too much trouble so she put up the rails and sat her fat a-- in the chair out by the door and he freaked out and jumped out of the bed..fracturing his hip..Then they allowed him to lie flat down on his back after the 2nd surgery and he got phemonia...I brought him back home and he kept on having problems with his breathing since he got the pheminia and i called the dr to get him some antibiotics the nurse refused t o call in the script and gave us an appt for the next week...He never made it the week..Died in my arms..from the phemonia.. Hope this helps some..I still have some of the supplies here..If you need any let me know..I have been donating all his medical supplies to others...I do still have 2 large boxes filled with ostomy supplies.... Good luck ....Hope this helps some...Monnstar(LINDA)

Thank you Linda. I am sorry for your loss :( My nephew is hanging in there. It appears that the surgeon has told my sister that this surgery is about as good as it will get for my nephew. I am choosing to believe however that God is in control and I will let Him have the final word :) Thank you for your kind offer for supplies, I think she is doing ok. {{{HUGS}}} to you.
