View Full Version : Can you help me?
Maybe some of you know me. I have epilepsy & usually go to that room or Forum for Emotional Support.
Can anyone tell me about Baker Cyst? I read it can be caused by arthritis. My dad has it & he can hardly walk because it hurts so much.

My daughter gets these and they can be very painful. they seem to come and go for her.
I have severe psoriatic arthritis and have cysts but not sure they are Baker's cysts.

Lor, I think I urged your dad to move from a place w/stairs already? Is that possible? I my opinion his knees will not improve until he can reduce the amount of stress he has to put on them.
Did he get the cream I suggested? I'm amazed how that stuff works! It does burn, and even the next morning when taking a shower you can still feel the burning sensation.
I doubt there's much that can be done except try to get the swelling down & try to ease the pain. Mind you I'm not a doctor! Does he take any meds for arthritis? I've never taken any kind of RX & Advil doesn't do much.
Is your father overweight? Carrying excess weight puts more stress on those knees!
Has he ever considered having knee replacement surgery? That's what the cardiologist suggested to me when I complained it's not always possible to get out & walk or even use a treadmill.
I try to walk everyday,I use a walking stick to keep from falling & I stop to rest if it's getting too painful. That's one reason I adopted a dog......to force me to take daily walks. Otherwise it's just too easy to sit & moan about the pain.
He needs to be proactive about doing everything possible to help himself. You haven't mentioned what type of arthritis he has (or if you did I've forgotten). Does he see a reumatologist? I do know that if he has RA excercise might make it worse. Damned if you do & damned if you don't kinda thing.
And if he lives in a cold, damp climate such as I do,then the weather alone will make him hurt more. I'm considering getting some Vit D myself to see if it helps any.
I wish him better days ahead.....
