Hi.
I don't have a true physical disbility, but due to my shunt for Hydrocephalus draining too fast for me when I am too upright (causing headaches), I keep trying to recline a bit while I use my laptop.

I can't seem to make the set-up comfortable or ergonomically correct, often curling the bottom of my spine (because I end up slouching) which ends up causing numbness in my arms and legs!

Can anyone think of a solution for me?

Cathy
shunted for 1st time in 2001 at age 50 and have had to limit my time upright ever since but the limitation gets worse and better due to weather and also setting changes on my valve/shunt

I googled "reclining laptop" ( Remember the quotation marks) and this is what I got.

I sure hope something there will be of help to you.

- Good to see that you're in the hydrocephalus forum. The people there know their stuff.

Thanks Linnie,

Actually I need both the type of laptop table that you searched
AND how to slightly recline ergonomically in my LazyBoy recliner while using the laptop.

Most positions I try strain my lower back so I am definitely doing something wrong! And I also get neck strain and headaches as I tend to lift my head towards the screen. Then I end up having to quit as my concentration falls apart as my achiness/headache increases.

Yes, I do frequent the Hydrocephalus forum and have since around 2001, only back then I was MaryCK (Cathy is my middle name). And you are right, there are some very knowledgeable and helpful people there!

I really have to solve this so I can use the laptop to exercise my brain! I want to learn Photoshop Elements, how to download music (leagally!) to make my own mixed CD's, and to learn to use voice recognition software.

That's going to be a lot of hours on the laptop so I really need to solve this!
Thanks,
Cathy

Cathy

I swear, when I was looking around I found some trays/tables specifically for use in LazyBoy chairs. I think.

Yes there were.
But they don't seem to solve my problem.

I'll have to come back to explain it better as today is a catch up on work day!
- if I can last.

Thanks,
Cathy

The first prototype:

Since then I have gone with various setups similar to a reading table with a flat panel monitor extended from the reading table (much stress on table though) to having the monitor mounted on the wall. this pic for general idea: http://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/FOI/KPAQ/FMSGGMLQ/FOIKPAQFMSGGMLQ.MEDIUM.jpg

I have better pics but I'm in my recliner right now and they are out of reach ;)

Hope this helps :)
