this is a cut & paste from another thread...

I have a question about Boxing Day (maybe Lavan could answer also?). What exactly is it?

OK, you'd think since I'm such an avid reader that I would have known what boxing day meant! Too boot I live 60mi from Canada...

according to stats, the 2 busiest shopping days in the year are dec. 24 and 26...
on the 26, people go shopping... frenetically... in waiting lines outdoors for sometimes up to 3 hours before stores opens at 1pm... either to take advantage of 50% off sales on christmass stuff, as well as anything that has defects... and nothing of that is returnable, all are final sales!... people go crazy on that day and make ridiculous purchases… as the 50% off ambiance puts them in a buying mode… compulsive shopping... and most stuff is at regular price... buy today and pay in 24 months kinda thing... this is just marketing strategy to get people in... or they're in a hurry to return whatever they received at christmass that they don't like or things that don't fit because that was desperately purchased on the 24... this is a great aberration !!! even as a child, i was so thinking... i dunno if it has ever been a holiday... as it appears to me, it's just a commercial day... not so holy... except for the big hole it'll make in your budget !!!

i wonder why most people can't just stay home and relax, or go play outdoors... *ack

i’ve been outta that crazy wheel for about 20+ years… and i don’t regret any of that at all... i try to manage not to have to go to shopping centres or grocery stores between dec. 18 and jan. 2...
