I am new to this site, but wanted to briefly share my TN story. I was diagnosed with TN in October, 2005. At that time I was having only minor pain/twinges. My Dr. had me start taking Tegretol, which I was allergic to! I was then placed on Neurontin. I started having severe attacks with the "electric shocks" taking over the right side of my face. I was having 3-4 attacks daily with each attack lasting 30-45 minutes each. The medication was not helping. I called my Dr. and begged him to do the MVD. On November 9, 2005 I went to Denver (which is 6 hours from my home) and had the surgery. YES, I took action immediately, but to date I HAVE HAD NO MORE PAIN! The MVD was a success and I am a healthy 52 year old and onery as ever!
I am a firm believer in MVD and would encourage anyone to not be afraid and "Go For it"! I realize everyone is different, but if you find out you have TN, don't be afraid to have the MVD. If you would have any questions, please let me know. I want to help ALL! God Bless

Hey Bonnie
It's really nice to hear positive stories about MVD's. Often people with successful MVD's leave this site and never look back. Can you blame them?
Thanks for sharing

I have been gone for one year. I just relived my anniversary memory in regard to my MVD. I decided I was a success story and if I can be helpful to others, that is what God has planned for me. I was fortunate and have been away far to long to lend a helping hand.

Hi Bonnie,
I am so happy your MVD was successful!!! That is great. I am here in Denver, and just wondering who was your neurosurgeon?
I also had a successful MVD but am dealing with a spinal fluid leak now. Very uncomfortable!!! Still better than the TN stuff any day.

Glad to hear the success stories as well. Sadly, my attacks go on for months and don't quit. I get daily sensations and now that the meds are doing some good. They don't always block one hundred percent of the pain, but they are keeping it tame enough to get by.

Hi Bonnie!
I am also going in for an MVD really quickly before things get worse. Tegretol IS working for me but I hate it and would like to extricate this "syndrome" from my life. So off I go, THIS friday. I will report back.

Kellie............ My Neurosurgeon is Dr. Prall in Littleton, CO and Dr. McNutt is my Neurologist, they were not only a wonderful Doctors, but had delightful bedside manners. I would recommend them to ALL.
Susan......... Good luck Friday and please know that you will be in my prayers. MVD is a big decision, but it was the "right decision" for me.
Thanks to all of you that replied to my post, if I can be of help to any of you, please let me know.

Bonnie,
That is both my neuro and neurosurgeon too!!! They are both great, you are right. I am still dealing with a spinal fluid leak that developed after 7 weeks post op. Its been 2 1/2 months now, and I have been referred to another neurosurgeon for a second opinion. If I still feel like crud by December, I am going to go. Don't get me wrong, I think Dr. Prall did a great job and I totally am over the TN, plus I had an additional compression on my 7th nerve that was bigger than the 5th. I am just still having alot of problems and don't feel that Dr. Prall wants to deal with this part. Dr. McNutt has been really great though, and ordered an MRI which shows I still have fluid in the back of my head. Its annoying and painful at times, but I am still hoping it will go away, as Dr. Prall believes. I am very glad for you that you had a total recovery and no problems.

WOW.... can't believe we have the same Drs. I can understand where you are coming from to help your cause. I realize Dr. Prall & Kelly are great, but maybe a second opinion wouldn't hurt!
I went to see Dr. McNutt in August and had another MRI. Everything came back normal and no signs of MS..... that was a possiblity. I was elated not to have that sickness hanging over me! I feel so blessed!
Best of luck and let me know how things are going for you.
