G'day everyone.

The good news is that Grant is in championship mode :D

The bad news is that he has lost a little more weight :(

The reason that he has lost a bit more weight is because now we have chucked out his one tin a day of Jevity Hi Cal muck/poison that he was on. He now has 100% home grown/prepared meals each day.

We can't really increase the volume intake much because he does get a lot of volume a day.

So, I wonder if by increasing substantially his Flaxseed oil intake, we could seen an increase in weight. The literature that I have read on flaxseed oils says that the only negative side effects of having to much is weight gain = AHA, what a lovely negative side effect :)

We use the Melrose flaxseed oil which comes in a bottle and needs to be kept in the fridge. We can get either the organic oil or the non-organic one.

QUESTIONS

How much more flaxseed oil can we give Grant (He gets about a tablespoon a day), before we give too much?

If giving a lot of flaxseed oil is a bit dicey what can we give him so that he can put on weight, without adding a lot more volume to his feed?

Hoping to hear from you soon.

I will stay online for the flaxseed oil expert's advice :)

Seeya here in a mini.

One tablespoon might be on the low side. What if you increased by just one tablespoon. Also, what about olive oil? Mayonaise? We were told to add fats, but I would watch the cholesterol issues.

I wish you could get Microlipids. We got those for Carly. They are basically liquid fat from Safflower oil. Actually, I've been buying safflower oil for cooking lately.

Hey Deb.

Thank you for your suggestions.

We will certainly increase the Flaxseed. Hmm, in Australia the food act, or whatever it is called. is not very precise regarding rules. There has been some media articles recently regarding labelling. Unfortunately 'Pure Virgin Olive Oil', so labelled may not be 'Pure Virgin' at all. We are very wary and would prefer to stay just on the flaxseed oil if we can.

Not too worried about cholesterol issues but don't get me going on that subject or I will write a few thousand words and bore you silly :D

Microlipids sounds interesting. Is this a brand name?

Here's a link, but I can't find the manufacturer's site where they describe microlipids.

We got them paid for by the state (Medicaid). It comes in 3.5 ml bottles which are 400 cals each bottle.

Here's a link:

Hi Paul. I give Tyler the whole flaxseed blended up with his meals. We use 3 tbsp. a day. You might also consider coconut water/milk or oil. Very high in calories and nutrients. I use the coconut water as the base of many of Tyler's blended meals. Pumpkins seeds are also high in calories (3 Tbsp. of each kind of seed is 150 calories each). We also add full milk yogurt to increase the calorie count. Tyler isn't losing weight, but nor is he gaining any. Right now he is staying at 100.8 lbs. and he get two blended meals plus 3 cans of Isosource. Hope to have him off the cans by summer, but can't get in to see a dietitian until March. Glad to hear Grant is staying in championship mode.

I don't know anything about this subject since we just give Ri 4 cans of pediasure daily and some water on the side. So far (since we are new to her complete and total food refusal) she is maintaing her weight after losing two pounds from the initial food refusal and me not knowing exactly how many cans to give her..

Anyway- I really just popped in to say that I love your little cartoon.. adorable.

The idea is to have 30-40%of calories from fat, and they should be balanced as to omega 3s and 6s. if you can tell me how many calories grant gets, and how much he weighs I can help you calculate how mch oil he needs.

Deb I am interested in the microlipids. Do you just add it to her foods and stuff or does Carly drink it? It sounds like something that Megs could really benefit from. If you could tell me how you use it please.
