View Full Version : ssd possible for seizures?
My daughter has seizures and I am asking the question for her as she does not have access to this forum. Is it possible to get disability because of seizures? She does not get to drive because of them not to mention the problems that cause her to have seizures, lack of sleep, stress, flicker problems from computer screens, lights, etc. Can anyone help me before I suggest she start the procedure. I have gotten disability myself but I am much older. Even with a multitude of problems myself, it went all the way to Virginia before it was overturned. Quite a few years of stress before it was settled. But I at least had insurance because of my husband. She has none. Thanks for any information you will share.

A person can receive benefits for seizures if the condition is disabling. Disabilty is determined by a numer of factors including the type of seizure, the frequency, duration, and response to treatment. Seizures that occur because the person failed to take their medication do not count. Just being restricted from driving and operating machinery is not enough to be considered disabled.
Thanks. There is much more going on in her case besides the driving. I know how stressed she is already and know how bad it was for me when I applied. I wanted to see if it was possible before I suggested to her to try. Her health has declined since her first seizure in 2000 and I really don't see anyway around it because of her not having any insurance. I'll leave the decision up to her and offer my help if she applies.
