Such evil stuff...I have not been medically advised to watch my sodium intake--thank God!--but I blow up like a balloon from the water weight gain, and I'm trying desperately to purge the water weight before getting on the scale Fridays. Truthfully, it's the only problem I have now.

Anyone else?? I confess to eating a fair amount of prepared food, due the craziness that is my life , but I don't always succeed.

If this is a prob for you, how do you handle it, especially if you aren't much of a cook or don't have time to cook?

I 'preciate any thoughts y'all have!

TIA! :)

LIZARD :)

Hi I've found a good site for sodium info,it lists alot of common foods & I found it handy to keep by the frig. You also might google the Dash Diet, sorry I don't have the link.

http://oto.wustl.edu/men/sodium.htm

I hope you will find this beneficial!

It's very hard to go low-sodium,basically you have to AVOID anything/everything in a package of any kind! I use low-sodium catsup now which is pricey but also spicey!

Be sure to limit soft drinks, I still have 1 Pepsi per day, check the labels-can be a huge difference in sodium for different flavors!

I've cut my blood pressure meds by 1/4 since watching my sodium! Sorry to say I have NOT lost any weight after the first few # of "water weight".

Good luck! Buttons

I guess I'm an odd ball - my doc told me I need to eat more salt, as my blood sodium is too low. I need to drink a lot of fluids to protect my kidneys from being damaged from a med I have to take, so, for what its worth, maybe drinking lots of water would help reduce your sodium level, too. (I rarely eat processed foods/fast foods that are loaded with the stuff.)

Lots of water is Key, If I eat a lot of salt My legs swell really bad.
When I press on front of shins it will leave a very deep indent, do to too
much salt the past couple of days. I have done this before.
I drank (10) yes ten. bottles of water each day for 3 days
(p***d) my brains out but got rid of the xtra water (about 6-7 pound).
from the sodium. hope that helps.

Lasix and Spironolactone(spelled wrong) help to get rid of my water weight - tons of water doesn't do it, more exercise doesn't do it (eventhough I'm now also limited in my exercise type and amount.) These meds are just packing on the pounds. I had lost 65 pounds when I got sick and have gained back 45 of them. I'm miserable and don't like myself much anymore, but need the meds for pain and sleep. What can you do? What is the answer?
Thanks for listening.

I saw the word "Salt" in the list of messages and came to read it.
I've noticed that if I have too much salt my restless leg syndrome gets much worse. I figure it's to do with fluid retention or something. I do use pure sea salt in some foods though.

I used to use a vegetable salt that I bought at the health food store, but I didn't really like the taste of it. I've taken to using more fresh herbs and spices to try to add more flavour to foods rather than using more salt. There's salt in so many foods, it's difficult to not have a little.

Just wanted to add to this thread that if you dip, (use smokeless tobacco) you could be getting more salt then you imagined. My hubby stopped dipping after almost fifteen years of it when we realized it was somehow being cured with salt, why they do this is beyond me, but it's got to be true because he feels a LOT better now and his feet don't swell as badly as they used to. Who knew there would be all that salt in smokeless tobacco? I had no clue until I tasted it and it was like table salt!

Just wanted to add to this thread about this subject since I figure if we didn't know others don't either. :(

G'day Pamster,
I didn't know what smokeless tobacco was so had to look it up. lol *grimace
I found some other stuff about smokeless tobacco.
I guess I didn't know about it because it's banned here in Australia.
