I am glad I found this forum. I have been on the colloid cyst forum for the last 2 years. Now I need to move to this forum to help my son and I.

My 6 years old son has movement processing problems, (cant remember the long word - position in space) and auditory problems and fine motor skill problems and some social problems.

He had a hearing test two months ago and she said his hearing was perfect. He also falls over frequently when he runs around. And he chews his clothes - constantly. I need to find some chewlery that does not cost too much.

He currently has an appointment for a pediatric neurological developmental assessment in May next year. I was told that it will take a few hours. Which means it is a really good assessment.

He can read quite well, his vocabulary is very good but his speech is not so good and neither is his handwriting. He hates writing.

I grew up knowing I was different but not knowing how. I did not understand that I was deaf (APD) until I was a teenager but by then I had already withdrawn into myself and preferred to stay on my own reading. I still do prefer to be on my own - either reading or surfing online.

I too prefer not to write - I much prefer typing.

Everyone thinks I am weird and I have not kept any job for very long.
The longest jobs I had were for 5 years each but I hated them and I stayed at both places because I needed the money and I did not want to have to go through the hassle of interviewing again.

I hate interviewing for jobs. I can write a great resume, but I usually fall down at the interview.

Ok thats enough for the first post.

SS.

Finally had the appointment to take my son for a pediatric neurological development assessment today.

She tested him for language, vocabulary, reading, memory recall, fine motor skills etc

She did NOT test him for gross motor skills.

At the end she said that she think he shows a lot of symptoms of ADHD, BUT the fact that his school teacher and daycare teachers have NOT expressed any concern is unusual.

I think that supports my theory that he does not have ADHD, but sensory issues.

Because as we all know the kid has to show all the symptoms of ADHD for 6 months all the time and in all places. He only does it at home. His dad and I have just lost control of him - which is true. He screams and has a tantrum if he does not get what he wants. we have not been as consistent as we should be in his behavioural and social training.

[blame dad for that. I say NO and dad says yes]

He does fidget and get easily distracted and is impulsive - those are common to all 3 places. (home, daycare and school)

I did tell the specialist that I asked for the assessment because of the sensory issues. She then totally proceeded to ignore what I said and dumped a whole load of ADHD stuff on me to read.

I have read that it is common for ADHD kids to also have sensory issues.

Is it possible to have ADHD without the Sensory issues?

If yes then do those ADHD kids without sensory issues, fall over (lose their position in space) frequently when they run around?

I should also mention that my son has had OT pullouts at school over the last 8 months. Mostly for his writing which was just horrible 10 months ago, but has now improved immensely.

The OT gave him a pencil grip that makes it a lot more comfy for him to hold a pencil. She (OT) also wrote a report that says she beleives that my son has sensory issues. He has now used up his OT allotment, and if he ever needs more in the future, I have to put in another request to the school for more OT. Obviously it has to be related to school in some way.

I cannot get any other OT appointments outside of school, because OT is not covered by the provincial health system (Canada) and I simply cannot afford to pay.

I can not say if your son falls in this category. But I can say it definitely sounds more than just ADHD. And yes ADHD and SPD can be comorbid (I have both ADHD and SPD). Usually though if a child has both symptoms they are diagnosed with both disorders, not just ADHD. But I never heard of kids with ADHD have a lot of gross motor deficits (are you talking about Dyspraxia?). I wish you luck and if you have any questions for me just ask.
