The most terrifying thing happened  . My shunt was originally placed in to take pressure off of my CSF leak.lon the 22nd of June my dd and dh noticed that I wasn't making any sense when I spoke and my eyes were "wonky" his words at this time I was totally confused I couldn't put my shoes on, tie them or follow instructions I didn't know what was going on,I didn't have hydrocephalus prior to this the shunt was just as I said above. My dh took me to emerg not before accusing me of taking to many pain killers, I was flown air ambulance to Calgary where I argued with the NS that I didn't have hydrocephalus, that my shunt was there for my leak... he showed me my ct ... my ventricle looked like a balooon. I was so afraid, and alone. :( I had just had my shunt replaced . I didn't know a person could aquire hydrocephalus, but I guess because I had a shuntfor so long in my head it didn't matter for what reason my ventricles came to depend on it. Dag

I also aquired hydro... Did not know my condition had a name til 2003. My shunt was for excessive swelling after having a tumor removed. I did not get the right meds to keep the swelling down... I rather it me than someone else

You poor thing! It does seem our brains become reliant on the shunts....when my hydro was discovered (when I was 26), my ventricles were big but not huge and certainly the condition wasn't getting worse quickly. Yet last year when they tried switching off my shunt to see if I could cope without it, I was in dangerous pressures within 48 hours. At least you know now...knowledge is power! You'll be able to monitor things with your NS and hopefully keep nasty episodes like this at bay. Hope you feel better soon.

If your CSF Leak was not due to trauma ask your NS if it was due to increased pressure. If it was then the hydro may have caused your leak in the first place. My NS did not use the term hydro with me until I pressed him.
