Ok I am having this weird feeling and I don't know how to best describe it to the Dr. when I go Tuesday. Ok here goes ...when I have my feet up (like sleeping in bed or up on an ottoman) and I first put my feet on the ground I get like a weird pain not quite shooting pain not quite pins and needles but something in between. This happened for the first time about 2 weeks ago(when I started to feel like poo again) and I didn't think much of it but it has been happening almost everytime I put my feet on the ground now. Anyone else have this or something similar? How do I describe it to the Dr.? I know my explanation is terrible! My hubby says oh ya that happened to me before but not everytime I out my foot down. Any insight ...ideas?
Thanks to anyone who has any advice or just takes the time to read my post.

No sure how you can explain it, I know that for the most part my feet and calves feel like they have cement blocks on them and kind of numb, but let me step on a cord or something barefoot and pain shoots straight to the brain

Is it a sensation like something stabbed you or whacked you really hard on your feet (i.e. like you got hit with a ruler on the bottoms of your feet)? I have a sensation like a stabbing pain, but it's not just when I put them down on the ground, unfortunately. It goes along with a sensation like my feet are on fire. I am VERY happy to note that, while these often occur together, at lesat it doesn't happen all the time. Thanks G-d for the small favors?
Pain can be very hard to describe. One thing you can do that might help you is to go to some of the pain management web sites which have lists of adjectives that describe pain. It may sound a little bizarre, but that may give you a better working vocabulary to come up with some descriptors for what it feels like. There are actuall lists on some of the sites for words to describe pain, and they can be very usefu. If it weren't 2 a.m. right now (and the xanax is kicking in...) I'd Google it for you, but please give it a whirl. It's probably worth it.
Hope this helps :) !

Is it like a stinging burning sensation for no reason?

I have to chuckle here, we gals are known for our sound impersonation, ever describe what is wrong with the car to a mechanic and try and describe the sound it's making <smile>

Thanks for the advice.....It is like being whacked with a very hot ruler! LOL! I know another silly way to describe something. I am going to go check out some pain management web sites for a better way to describe it to the Dr. I am hairdresser and I know sometimes the way ppl explain something and what I am thinking are 2 very different thigs. So I can imagine it is similar for a dr. trying to figure out exactly what one is talking about. I am just loving all the friendly advice on the board!

Is it perhaps an electric shock like sensation? Does it happen when you bend your head forward..perhaps to look down at your feet? If so, it could be l'hermittes sign.

Nope doesn't seem to be when I bend my head/neck down. It is just when I go from having my feet up or one leg crossed and then touch it down to the floor. If I touch down ever so gentle it doesn't bother me however I have stopped hopping up quickly anymore because it just hurts my feet so bad. Hurts like heck when I get out of my hubby's big truck. When I touch my foot to the pavement it is the worst.

Is it in the heel area? I had this last summer after wearing a certain pair of sandals all summer, I suddenly developed plantar fasciitis.
I have had to purchase gel insoles in order to be able to walk at all. The pain was very intense, especially when first putting my foot on the floor. It eased somewhat as the day wore on but was very difficult to get around because of the pain.
I hope you can find out what the trouble is...and fix it. I have resorted to wearing (along with the gel insoles in my sneakers) flip flops because of the soft sole and more recently, crocs.
All the best to you,
Lorraine:)

Confused:
I hope you are able to find out what is causing your problem and get to the bottom of it.
Being on your feet all day and having to deal with foot pain is not pleasant.
Hi Whisper:
Aren't crocs the greatest invention since sliced bread? I live in mine. Why can't they make them for winter?
Mind you I shouldn't complain, they are light enough to cart around and I take them everywhere.
Everyone should have about five pairs. I tried on a pair of the knock-offs, they weren't even close. No more running shoes for this old lady - it's crocs all the way.
Hi,
Being a hairdresser you are on your feet most of the day.IT could be your shoes. Or maybe you need to put an innersole in them that can cushion them. In the early years of MS, I remember being on my feet all day and they were very sensitive especially the balls of the feet.
Putting them up takes the pressure off and when you put them down again hard you feel that pain. I am just guessing here. Get the best shoes you can and lots of cushioning and see if that helps. Also your other shoes and slippers, etc. should be padded.
See if this helps you. It is easier to take good care of your feet than take pain medication. See what the doctor says. He might have other ideas about it.
Feel better,
Lady

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am a hairdresser but I only work 2 days per week. The other days I am running after my 3 1/2 yr old and 5 yr old. I only wear good shoes and have seen a podiatrist for help. The podiatrist says he sees nothing wrong with my foot. He thought I had a morton's nueroma in my toe area but it was in the wrong spot. He feels this is something I should take up with my GP. Lately all I have been wearing are my birkestock clogs because they are room enough at the toe for me to wiggle around my foot when the numbness gets to me. I am going to the Dr. today so I will mention this along with my other "issues".
Thanks again!

I can't have blanket's touch my feet at night, not only does it sometimes hurt but it irritates them to ****... so I have made a "tent" sort of thing to keep the blankets off of them, but still keep them warm. Also my feet burn, they turn beat red(bottom only) and are extreemly hot to the touch, sometimes I am sure they will blister but obviously don't. This burning is most of the time, it bothers me mostly at night, so I can understand your situation.

What are crocs??
These (http://www.crocsshoes.com.au/) are Crocs. They look to me like dock shoes for people who'd likely never step foot on a dock.

I understand what your saying. I have all kinds of funny feelings in my numb feet, like pains in my toes. I have really almost given up trying to treat it. I take the Baclofen but then I am just dopey. I don't like that but that's me giving up.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
