Have you read any of the book about dyslexia yet?
It's too crazy to describe, but I got everything Carmen needed for her at her IEP today, I understood dyslexia so well, it was effortless to show why the current program she is in is not what she needs for several reasons, and her reading specialist agreed with me - it was nuts! It was so unlike any IEP about autism I'd ever been in. It was like so clear cut, this is what is being done, but this is what should be done. Everyone agreed, by next Monday they'll have a plan for HER INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. Am I dreaming?
I have had only good things to say about this new school for both the kids, in stark contrast to their last school...but...it's the same district, so I think I'm afraid it'll turn upside down again or I'm being tricked somehow, it's like I'm mixing the past school and present school together in my head cause the last one was so traumatic. But I gotta say, if they do this for her, I mean wow. Is it possible to be in a school that gives your autistic child and dyslexic child FAPE? Don't pinch me, I might be dreaming, aye.
Anyhow, I'd love to hear what you thought of the book and want to let you know that unlike autism, with dyslexia it is clear what needs to be done. That Sally Shaywitz (the author) is darn good, she really gets dyslexia and explained it so I could get what it is and what to do about it.
