I was Hydro -coiled and stented on November 4th and this coming Friday Dec 5/08 I will be going for my first follow up since my procedure.

I am making a list of questions for the Neurologist/Radiologist who did my 8mm Aneurysm.

So if you have any general questions let me know. I will try and get an answer.

I know Julie wanted to know how much radiation the new 3D CT scan put out.

Here's a few of my questions for him.

I couldn't fly for 4 weeks after coiling - Will Air flight be allowed after the follow up Dye Contrast Angiogram?

Do the Vascular Angio Seals really dissolve in the groin artery after 3 months?

Do they keep going thru the same exact place in the groin artery for the follow ups?

How much Iodine stays with you after a dye test? With 4 follow up angiograms in one year that's also a lot of iodine...

Should I not eat iodized salt now that I have that iodine coursing thru me?

If the Hydro Coils have to be inserted SO VERY quickly - as in a 7 - 10 minute window
- what took 3 hours on the operating table?

Is Onyx better than Hydro coils?

What is the stent made of? Platinum too?

Should the bed be elevated even by inches for the rest of my life?

The nurse told me to avoid bending over for a LONG time - what is a long
time?

When can I increase my blood pressure to the max via cardio exercise?

When can I weight lift again? What is a safe weight?

Plavix and Aspirin for 3 months after Coiling seems dangerous - more dangerous to come off.
I have read up on Plavix Rebound. Will he taper me off them in reduced dosages?

When can I take fish oil and vitamin E again?

Ditto for Ginseng.

Can I drink alcohol? Ok Ok white or red wine?

Can I scuba dive again - if so how many levels of pressure?
Every 33' feet down is a more intense pressure.

When do the headaches end - or is this just stress?

OK that's it for now - but I know I have more!

If you can think of any questions re Coiling and or Stents ~ just post them!

there isnt really a time limit....it is when you feel comfortable, im 10months post op and i can bend over, but not for long as i feel the pressure in my head.

When can I weight lift again? What is a safe weight?

i was told not to lift over 10kg for the first 6months, which i did, but i still find that if i lift anything over 10kg it can tire me out and give me headache.

Can I drink alcohol? Ok Ok white or red wine?

yes you can, depends how you feel though, i generally prefer white now (was red before) but i now find it gives me a headache as i drink it.

i was told by my neurosurgeon that he would prefer i didnt scuba dive due to the pressure. yet im allowed to skydive? lol...

i cannot think of anyother questions to add to your list, as you have really thought about all of these and are asking some great questions,. good luck x

Good questions Trish,
I thought it was funny, As a clipped patient, I too cannot scuba dive. Yet I am cleared to sky dive. Told him thanks but no thanks, not stupid. Maybe i will take him up if he joins me, eh...
Also he said i was cleared to have sex hanging from the chandelier. Funny the things we worry about.
Good luck and keep thinking of what you need to ask him.
Talk with you soon.

All surgery takes time, but it seems with Brain Surgery everyone is exhausted and can sleep for a very long time to recover. What makes Brain surgery such that people sleep so much to heal. To heal does the brain actually have us sleep to heal. Like you can not walk on a leg if the bone is broken, does the brain insist on not thinking or sleeping to heal?

I think you anwsered that one in your own question!

I think the Brain needs Sleep to the Max to heal.

Of course it needs fluids and food of course - but yes it's the sleep and lack of the "natter natter natter"of the inner voice that it probably trying to escape! :)

Of course with actual surgery - the whole body leave alone the head needs sleep as an overall heal due to the injury it perceives surgery to be.

Geeez - even the small puncture they do for an Angiogram - makes your body want rest for sure - no movement- but sleep absolultley!

I think a papercut is a body shock so to imagine anything bigger than that - when it comes to actually cutting the body - the Brain goes - Eeeek let me sleep and ponder this and heal it while I am at it!

No interferance please from the busy concious mind - go away!

A bad bang or bruise is bad enough but when our bodies are punctured - the brain says whoa - shock here - lets sleep and heal this.

Interesting questions Magpie.

That's my ramblings on the subject.
