I am SO pissed right now, I could scream. I got a note from Drew's English teacher with tests results showing that he's reading three grades below average!! I know that's a direct result of his being holed up in that nonverbal prison he's been in since last year, and I see nothing has changed in spite of THREE IEP meetings we had last year to pound it into his idiot teacher's head that he needs MUCH more challenge. I know now that it's due to their fear of meltdowns, and that makes ME want to subject them to a meltdown!! MY SON IS NOT HEADED FOR A GROUP HOME!! What the hell is wrong with these morons??!!   His HBTS therapists and I are tugging one way, and the school is tugging the other.

This kid is in EIGHTH GRADE. He's headed to HIGH SCHOOL next year, and he's been treated like a kindergartener!!!!!!!!! This district SUCKS. I have threatened to place him out of district, and the SPED dir insisted I didn't have to. Then THIS happens, after I thought we had an agreement (and a good IEP).

To make matters even worse, his idiot teacher just went on maternity leave, and his sub knows nothing about this, so how do I call an IEP review??!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIZARD, so disgusted!!!!!!!!!

Oh Liz I'm SO SORRY!

I'm afraid the best I can offer is [[[HUGS]]]] and support and lots of strong and positive vibes.

With Coley only in his first quarter of kindergarten this is way out of my area...but I'll tell you my first reaction to your note.

Get him out! You, actually Drew, doesn't have time for more chances. Do you have ideas of where he could go? Is it possible to get him caught up before next September? Well, anything is possible of course, what I mean is, is there a place he can go that would do what it takes?

OMG! I'm so sorry! I think I'd be inclined to get an advocate too...mostly so that you can be po'd but not have any constructive process hampered by that. OMG! I SO don't blame you for being this mad, I would want to beat them silly too!

Liz, Im not the best at IEP's. I always feel like a lamb surrounded by lions even with as many as I have been in.. But I say call another one especially with having a new teacher and tell them this is the last one before you pull him out if you dont see changes within a certain amount of time.

Adam is in 8th grade also and we are getting ready for his triannual IEP and Im nervous as ever. I dont know what to expect at this one getting ready to move him to high school. He isnt as handicapped and I feel they are going to do like they did with Noah.

I hope you are stronger than me and can put your foot down and get changes and I HOPE this sub is better than his teacher and can help Drew.

HUGS,
GM

I don't know your states special ed laws, but the feds supercede them anyway and are usually more protective. In my state I would call for a CSE, they.

Is he in an autism class? why is the class so nonverbal? Does he get integrated into other settings? seems like he should have been getting integrated for math since he does so well at it.

Best thing you can do is become a parent member of the CSE, unless of course your state dosn't have that. I can't say it enough times, you learn (slowly) about the true process and they will be much more inclined to take care of you and yours because you help them. Even if you sit a few times a year it can make all the differnence in the world.

But check the fed laws to see what rights you still have. Do not threaten to remove him unless you know what you are doing. The last thing you want to do is put Drew on a bus for a few hours per day.
