I have tried everything I can think of. "My pictures" are all greater than 88x88 pixels. Is there a way to resize these so that I can use one as my avatar?

Thanks for your help.

There are a number of ways of doing it.
Someone from here put me on to a free programme called IrfanView.
http://www.irfanview.com/
It'll allow you to make a quick size change if you need it.

Or, upload the image to a free image host such as www.**********.us put a link to it in this thread and someone here will resize it for you. ;)

Thank you both! If I have an avatar the next time I post you'll know it worked.

Yay, hamster! I'm glad you got it working.

mcfox, good to see you here again. I had a chuckle when I saw your location. :) I hope it has been nice and sunny this year.

There is a website you can use to upload avatars to and resize them called MyImager.com (http://www.myimager.com) and when you go you'll see the 'browse' button to upload something from your harddrive to their image editing area.

http://www.cyber-soup.com/pamster/resize.jpg

Then on the second menu over above the image will be a "Edit" menu and you can see the option to "resize" the image here:

Just choose the "Resize" option and tell it to make the avatar 80 by 80 which is the dimension limit here on Brain Talk for avatars. I hope this helps! ^_^

mcfox, good to see you here again. I had a chuckle when I saw your location. :) I hope it has been nice and sunny this year.
Thanks. :)

It's been positively tropical this year. It's still warm even at this time of year ~ about 8 degrees C during the day

Pamster - good site! I've added it to my bookmarks.

I tried it and it works! But I could not make the crop function work.
Any hints on that?:o

Glad to be of help mcfox. :D

For cropping you need to click the upper left corner of where you want to start the left top cropping and then the bottom right corner for the other area being cropped, it looks like this and adds numbers to the X & Y variables for the top and bottom it goes by:

Then you just click submit and go from there, hope that helps mrsdoubtfyre. :)

and got an error message, that the lower right was in the "wrong" place?

It is confusing since you cannot see the crop lines! But the other functions worked fairly well.

This is the picture I used,
and the profile 100x version I made:
This is a baby hummingbird that came to sit on my clothesline on vacation.
There is a red clothespin out of the picture, that attracted him. The new
fledglings cannot fly as long as adults, and they are more tame and often come close to us while we sit on the dock. ;)

I love your picture Mrs D. Wow! That is such a incredible camera you have. :D I don't know why it gave you an error on the imager site, I tried it today and it worked fine. I don't know if maybe they were having trouble with their server at the time or something maybe that could be what the trouble was. I am really impressed with the photo though, really a great pic! :D

We decided to get our first digital camera in May this year. It was a very
complex task, with all the camera jargon etc. But after 3 weeks of research
we whittled it down to a Canon, Sony, and Kodak zoom.

I wanted the zoom feature, and the removable batteries..so after looking
on the net on several forums, websites, I decided on the Sony.
We used it first time this summer... and I was totally flabbergasted!

It is a Sony DSC H1 5 megapixel 12x zoom. Already it is out of date with the newer
one H2. It can take pictures in the DARK too...check out Mr.Toad.
I have a small number loaded on Flickr...if you want to see the range of situations it
can take.. www.flickr.com/photos/mrs_doubtfyre
The one of my son on the jet ski was amazing.. he was so far out in the water, and moving so fast! I was floored that I could capture that!

That photo image website is great, and I have already passed it on to a friend!
Thanks for all your help!

I remember you'd talked about the camera you had before but I know the post is in hiatus with all the other threads from before the crash. Thanks so much for sharing what you researched with me, I wanted to ask but I wasn't sure you'd have time to post it. Thanks Mrs D! :D

I am glad you're getting some use out of that online image editor website. It's one of my favorite editing tools. I have 'Picture It' (a microsoft program) which came with our HP camera. That was back in like 96" that we got it and it is so outdated, no zoom feature. I just might be on the market to get a new one and I like the one you got. It sounds like just what I want too. :D

Thanks again for the info on the camera, that photo and the others I've seen you posting in the autism forum were all awesome. :D
