My friend has a mild form of colitis. She gets blood in the stool and when she has gas has to go to the bathroom because it's liquid, sometimes with gas. BM's are normal and solid. Blood is bright red. "Looks like tiny clots". She's 28 and has had this for a couple years. She's on antidepressants. It started 2 years ago, about 8 months after sstarting Paxil. She's now on a lower dose of Paxil, but she's also taking Xanax for anxiety. The colitis has come back bad in the past 2 weeks. She has pains in her thighs after she goes.

Did you have a question?

Generally speaking, colitis frequently has an emotional component to it's pattern. There is also a form that has a significant hereditary, genetic base.
Are these part of your concern? Cheerio.

Sorry, I meant to ask if anyone had insight into a possible cause or solution.

I assume that your friend has been under the care of a gastroenterologist and has had colonoscopy.

Here is some information on microscopic colitis http://www.finerhealth.com/Educational_Info/Microscopic_Colitis/

Colitis is an inflammatory/ulceration disorder. it is important to get the necessary tests done to rule out other possibilities.Certain foods can irritate the condition : sugar, coffee, alcohol, hot spices, garlic, ginger, chocolate, gonger, shellfish, opranges and mandarins. Grapefruit juice should also be avoided. Aloe vera juice is excellent as it is a natural anti inflammatory and fish oils or flaxseed oil are very good .Some herbs that may help:dandelion, yarrow and feverfew. It is possible your friend may now suffer from low iron, so a blood test to get them checked would be good.Being low in iron will make her colitis worse and an iron supplement will help to alleviate it.
