Did anybody see that episode the other night? A new doctor, heart surgeon I believe, who has aspergers?
If so, what did you think of how aspergers was portrayed?

Isn't there one on Gray's Anatomy, too? I haven't watched it yet; it's DVRed.

I don't watch ER, but do watch Gray's...who's the Aspie on that show???
There is one on criminal minds...Spencer. I like him. Does anyone watch that?

There are lots of show with characters who have aspergers, but I am talking about the one on ER. I hadn't watched the show in years, but when I tuned in the other night a new doctor came to the hospital who had aspergers.
I hope she returns and some of you get to see, because I would love to hear your thoughts about how they are portraying aspergers... IMOH its not really like the other shows.

How so?
I kinda lost interest in ER when it got to be so soapy...isn't this it's last season. I wonder if I could find a clip online, what's the characters name?
Do you know the Spencer character? Do you think he's a good portrayal? I'm just trying to get a sense of how the ER character is different...
I'd have to say that the one on Gray's, though, must not be a good portayal, because I can't even guess which one it may be.

It was Gray's, not ER.

I have it DVRed, but you can also watch it online. Go to www.ABC.com and you'll see it. :)

Dar gone it, my brain is so shot. This is what you get when you tivo. Yes, it is Grays, I watched ER right after it so I blended them in my mind. She was probably only going to be on this one episode, last week. It was quite obvious, and she actually mentions aspergers at the end when she tells that doctor (?) how condescending she was. She is a heart surgeon.
LOL How weird that my brain put her with Anthony Edwards... i need a vacation!!
Anywho.... how do you feel about how it was portrayed?

I had it DVRed from last week (hubby is home recuperating from eye surg from 2 weeks ago), and we watched it last night. It was quite good, I thought, although the whole "Ghost" thing with Denny was a bit weird. :)

OMG! What a GREAT episode!
And yes Keggy, she was awesome!
The one thing that was bugging me though...I always get annoyed when things don't make sense in shows...she's SO rigid, but yet she's a Dr. How the heck could she be that rigid, and function with frequent unexpected situations...I was expecting her to have a tantrum or something when the heart started beating...then they simplify it with..."Oh I've read about it"
YA, like it might be that easy to shrug off...
But then in the elevator explaining why she likes the heart helped resolve that for me.
I don't think she'll be back either, but I liked her too...maybe we'll see her again somehow.

...... but I liked her too
Oh no... I didn't say anything about liking her! I did not like the way it was portrayed at all way to stereotypical. I just wanted to hear what you guys had to say. I did not find her believable. I know rigidly, see that all the time, but I don't know... wasn't comfortable with how it was portrayed. Seems to me a show of this caliber could do better..... but then I look at ....
.... the denny ghost was over the top as well, touching him? Not to forget about the behavior of the interns using each other as lab rats, last week the lack of respect for the dead? I do believe the next episode will take it too far and something is going to happen to one of those interns. Maybe the show has new writers cause it has gotten a bit tackier. (is tackier a word?)

Oh, you're right, I had to go back...I think I read too much into Liz's post and somehow made her imaginary comment yours...
Apparently we all need a vacation...or maybe it's just the bleak reality of our 'pending' retirements that have us all preoccupied......makes me wanna BARF!
Anyhoo...from an Aspie perspective, I agree, way to stereotypical! AND as I mentioned I had WAY too much trouble buying her rigidity and the fact that she's a highly successful surgeon....that "I've read about it" solution just didn't cut it for me! How does she deal with crisis...makes no sense.
But I liked the whole response to Christina...that cracked me up! "Why are you talking to me"
And then her telling off the Dr in the elevator..."I might be "off", but I'm not dumb" That was classic!
My grandmother doesn't have aspergers, but she's a lot like her! And I love her to death too! I just love brutal honesty...that's what I liked about her...
I agree though, they did paint her as too 'text-book' very 1 demensional...
On the other subjects...I don't think she touched Denny, I think her cheese is slipping off her cracker...but I swear to god, if I'm wrong, I'm gonna be MAJORLY po'd...cuz that's just ridiculous...although, I'm pretty hyped up about seeing him on the show more often...he is so easy on the eyes!
I think the intern stuff is like a take-off of fight-club. Lowly peons trying to get their rocks off thrill seeking...a control thing. Who knows...
