hi all, i was diagnosed with narcolepsy yesterday and need some advice. well...lemme list my symptoms and see what you all think...cause this doctor was really young.
i've been falling asleep while driving for about 6 years now (i've been driving for 6 years). i fall asleep at work all the time, but only for a few seconds at a time. whenever i fall asleep in the car i have these mini-dreams that are very real, and sometimes extremely scary. i can keep myself awake if i slap myself...but it is literally uncontrolable, scare the **** out of my girlfriend all the time. other than totaling my first car in a field, i've been very lucky not to hit anyone over the years.
once i finally get to sleep at night, i wake up about once every 2 hours thinking i have to go do something; whether it be clean up imaginary cat puke, do imaginary dishes...or getting ready for work at 3:30 AM. sometimes i cant feel my right or left arm for about 20 minutes...i dont know if thats even related..might be that i just sleep on it wrong but anyway. occassionally i'll sit up in bed; dont know if im still sleeping or actually awake; but i'll see the bed covers as something they're not, or the curtains the same way. i piss my gf off cause i kick off the covers all the time, or roll up in them.

if anyone has any advice or comments, i'd really appreciate any ideas you might have. Thanks.

Hello,

Just wondering if you have ever had an MRI on your brain? It could be something the doctor has missed. Also wondering if you are on any kind of pain meds? Sometimes, I, too, have alot of these symptoms but have realized it's because of some of my pain meds.

You have come to the right place for advice and help. People on here are more than eager to help our fellow kind.

Good luck to you and keep posting to let us know how you are doing.

Take care,
Linda :)

Before you were dx'd did they do a sleep study on you ? That is how mine was dx'd at first then they did the blood test which also turned out positive. What kind of Dr dx'd you? .........K

i was diagnosed after my sleep study, although due to my symptoms they were pretty sure what it was. the blood test also confirmed it. a family physician dx'd me. i was thinking about seeing a neurologist to get a 2nd op.

Hi ZzZ,
I was one of the people talking with you in chat a couple of days ago. I saw your message here and just wanted to say that I hope you have some success finding a helpful neurologist ASAP, and that you get some relief from your symptoms really soon. Must be awfully exhausting for you.

take care,
Lara
