Hello everyone!!

Hi everyone! Long time no "see" I am happy to report that total abstinence from all mind altering substances and an active program which include the 12 steps, a sponsor, regular meeting attendance and service work has enabled me to celebrate 9 years clean on October 14th!!!!!! Yeah! I also have grown up and am better equipted to handle what life gives me. I have a wonderful life and I am grateful! My grandaughter is 6 1/2 months old and she is one of the most precious things in my life! How I ever got along without her, I do not know!

Hey, batsinwonderland - nice to hear from you again. :) Congrats on 9 years sober. I celebrated 10 years in June. :D It's so nice to hear that you are thoroughly enjoying your granddaughter! Thanks for stopping by to say hello.

Christina, how are you doing?? It's been awhile since we've posted. Are you doing better with the 'detachment' from your mom's situation? Please don't let the upcoming holiday season interfere with your good work. ;)

Hi Lee. Hope you are feeling okay. I also hope that the situation with your daughter has calmed down a bit. Have you learned anything about citoig?

I'm going to a Halloween party (a costume party, no less) this Saturday. I can't remember ever wearing a costume at Halloween time - lol  I'm going as a somewhat altered 'Bride of Frankenstein'. The invitation said they were combining a Halloween theme with a wedding theme and since I had an old wedding dress laying around, I decided to try this out. The one thing I bought special was the wonderful beehive wig - black with the white stripes up each side - and some white and black make-up. The wedding dress is old and yellowed, and the lace is falling apart (or off) so I thought I could make it work out. I had to alter the dress a bit because it was too small but it wasn't too hard to get that done.

This will be quite an experience for me. LOL There will be drinking, but that doesn't bother me at all. I've been around others drinking before without any trouble. The smokers will have to go outside since the hosts do not allow smoking in their home, so that is a bonus for me. I sure hope I don't chicken out after doing all this work!!!! ;)

Hope you all are having a peaceful evening!

Teddie I am glad you are going to a Halloween party. I honestly miss get togethers. Seems when you get clean and sober they all disappear unless you are good at making clean and sober friends which I ain't lol.

As for my mom she is totally out of her medication and still has not seen a doctor. She is drinking more often. I have no idea what we will do for the holidays. I can't be there with her like this. From what I am hearing she is in so much pain she can barely get around. I can imagine her being in a wheel chair not long from now. I am wondering if well...........don't want to hijack the thread.

So today I am recovering from knee surgery and enjoying the momentary peace and quiet lol.

Good to hear from you

Hi again! I am happy you are getting out Teddie. I have to work on Halloween. For the first time in years we decorated at work, and I have this bats headgear to wear on halloween. My daughter's boyfriend enfuriates me with his refusal to grow up! I want to just shake him, but I can't.
I fell 6 months ago on my knee, and I went to the doctor last week because no amount of light exercise or rest has been getting it better. I found out I have a broken kneecap. I have been referred to a orthopedic surgeon, but am still hopefull that all I need is for it to be immobilized. We'll see on Wednesday when I see the doctor. No dancing for me for a bit!

Hi Christina and bats.

Bats - I'm so sorry to hear you have a broken kneecap. I've heard that condition can be quite painful. :( I sure hope surgery isn't necessary but I know that knee surgeries now are much better than they used to be years ago. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please pop back in and let us know what the orthopedic surgeon had to say.

Christina - I know what you mean about missing gatherings. What's really ironic is that I managed to connect with some folks for a quite long time after I quit drinking but over the years, that slowly decreased to almost nothing. I have even become sort of 'cut-off' from some of my non-drinking friends along the way too.

From what I am hearing she is in so much pain she can barely get around. I can imagine her being in a wheel chair not long from now. I am wondering if well...........don't want to hijack the thread.
Please don't ever feel that you're 'hi-jacking' a thread. If you need to talk/vent about anything please do so.

I must have missed when you told us you were getting knee surgery. How long will you be recuperating? Are things going as they should? Glad you can enjoy the peace and quiet regardless of how "momentary" it is. ;)

Just wanted to let you know that the party was great! I really had a good time. I had planned to come home around 10 PM or so, but instead I stayed until midnight. We all had the chance to vote on the costumes in 5 different categories - scariest, sexiest, funniest, most original, and best. Imagine my shocked surprise when they announced that I won "Best Costume". They gave me a "goodie" basket and a 'Best Costume' Award Statue - a 9" tall gold skeleton, his skull was removed and he's holding it in front of him - lol. Not bad for my first attempt at a costume, huh?? lol ;)

Wishing you all a peaceful and addiction-free day! :D

Teddie your party sounds like a blast lol.

My surgery was to remove hardware. I had a titanium screw and staple removed. The staple was causing some pain, we think, and when he got in there the screw had started backing itself out so that came out too. I am recovering pretty well, walking on it and all but I think I may be over doing it cause today I actually had to take something for pain.

Besides that I am trying to remain stable, mentally, despite all that goes on around me. Mom is in hospital, did I say that? They are going to do surgery on her back this week.

Bats I missed the part about you getting hurt, ouch, I hope you heal quickly. I will have to go back and read.

Night all.
