Hi, everyone. I'm hoping that someone here may be able to give me some ideas. I have a friend who is close to 400 pounds. A couple of weeks ago she started having seizures out of the blue. She was in the hospital, given meds which appeared to control the seizures and then released. A few days later, she had another seizure and was sent back to the hospital. While in the ER she had another seizure and her heart stopped beating. They were able to bring her back. She has been on and off of a ventillator and currently is off. They have now found that her stomach is not digesting her food. She had to have her stomach pumped. She is in the ICU with a bipap machine. Other than her weight, any ideas of what can cause all of this? Thank you in advance to anyone who can give some insight.
Take care!
I won't be that much help but I do know that if her stomach is not digesting her food she is not getting enough vitamins & minerals etc. I do know that mentyl B12 helps many things and couldn't hurt her. I hope someone comes around with more help for you. It is scary times for your friend. She has multiple problems and not all of it is weight by now. Keep us posted about friend. :)
And yourself as well. Jump in anywhere you feel comfortable. I love the Forum for Emotional Support myself.

They may be checking her complete blood count daily (cbc). But you may ask how her sodium levels are. Low sodium can cause quick onset of seizures, I am a prime example. I had no idea my sodium was so low. My doc said I shouldn't even fell able to speak or drive! I was hospitalized that day.
Please take care and I will try to check in,
Kathy

Thank you both so much for your input - it is very much appreciated. She was discharged from the hospital yesterday with no explanation of what happened (I got that info from my other friend who is close to the other friend's parents). From the beginning I had suspected stroke to be a part of this as well. The hospital did not give her an MRI. But currently she has slurred speech and is very frequently repeating herself. She is not "all there". I just wish I had more information because it seems that there is something missing
Anyway, thank you both so much for taking the time to respond to my post.

She should probably be seen by a neurologist very soon! The other thing I am thinking is she could have bells palsey. It can cause speech problems, however, if she is 'not all there' she needs to be seen by a specialist and my choice would be a neurologist. I think the hospital was negligent to release her w/o a diagnosis, or being seen by other specialists for further tests. Just my opinion.
You are a good friend,
Kathy
