Hi everyone,, hows things going ?
Our garden, almost harvested out, a few remains of peppers, "tomatoes" {yike}.. cukes are just a memory now, as zucchini's,, our smushmelons, {our granddaughters word for mushmelons}, they are going bonkers out there, as our watermelons,, butternut squash is picked up,, onions are drying, we tryed to grow giant pumpkins for the grandkids, but the Iowa rains only let us have 2, and they are small,, oh our peach trees are doing good, as our pear tree..
I canned salsa, spaghetti sauce from the tomatoes,, bread and butter pickles, from the cukes,,.
I hung up my canning apron,, no more,, but I always say that and do more,, hahahaha !

I am so totally jealous Peg!
I have a container garden on our back porch. I have three large tomatoes, plenty of flowers have bloomed but still no tomatoes! A large green pepper plant, but so far, no flowers and thus no pepper.
My herbs are starting to do better though. Great big Basil plant: Lots of little black ants on it, but they arent eating the plant, so I can just wash them off. The tarragon is doing better since putting it in full sun instead of behind the screened part of the porch. Two new interesting mint plants: one is called "Chocolate Mint" Its minty with a bite to it. Good for tea! Several marigold plants next to the tomatoe plants to try to control insects. A small thyme plant
TS Fay got my huge rosemary bush: it just up and died: too waterlogged I guess. I still cannot find a single rosemary plant or packet of seed in the county. Hopefully soon I will be able to get one. I like to cook with rosemary alot, so this is frustrating!

The primary edible stuff in my gardens are oregano, chives and mint. Most of the rest is perrennial flowing plants and (must I say,,,,)weeds. The milkweed is thriving this year in time for the monarch butterfly migration (they love it!). And I think having the bird houses on the fence next to one of the gardens has provided us with a lot of "volunteer " plants.

Peg you made me hungry! :) We have some string beans that are delicious and still going strong, a few tomatoes and just picked what looks to be the last two cucumbers.
Our kale and greens are coming in strong though.

Production is slower, but we are still getting tomatoes, peppers, beans, limas, squash, zuchinni and cucumbers, but in reduced numbers.
I planted a short variety of corn late in the year as a test - we wre going to enlarge the garden next year and I want to see how it does - right now it has ears forming -- maybe it will make it, but at least I know it will grow okay in that location, so I can always plant it on time next year.
I have planted lettuce, spinach, kale, peas and cauliflower in the hopes that we will get some before it gets too cold.
Frost date here is usually last week in October.

Yes Cherie it is beautiful.
BBS1951, PM me with your address if you'd like some kale seeds. The stuff grows like a weed and to plant it all we do is rake up a patch of dirt and sprinkle the seeds on top.
