Hi,
I have been on Neurontin for some years now for pain control. I recently read about someone who committed suicide soon after taking this drug for pain control who had no previous history of depression. I have been fighting suicidal ideations for a while and wondered if anyone else may have had some experience with this as well while on this drug.:o

Neurontin has also been used by some to help depression and as a mood stabilizer so for everyone it is different. You have to make sure you let your doctor know and you need to think if this was a problem before you started the Neurontin.

I took Neurontin for a couple of years and suffer from depression but it was a separate illness and had nothing to do with the Neurontin. It was not made worse by the Neurontin in fact it did work as a mood lifter for me but was prescribed for pain so I did not use it that way.

Make sure your doctor knows you may need a different med.

Right, I have taken neurontin on and off for ~10 yrs. It was prescribed for my peripheral neuropathy and helped there. It also acted as a strong mood stabilizer for me before I knew there were such things as mood stabilizers.

I now know that I am bipolar type II, and still use neurontin for both conditions. I build up tolerance and have to go to other meds for awhile.

I have had spells of suicidal ideation, but never blamed it on neurontin, quite the opposite. The ideation occurs when my meds stop working.

Suicidal ideation is a horrible place to be and you need HELP. Check with your doctor.:)
