I have a friend that has been having a hard time dealing with the loss of his wife 9 months ago.

He went to a doctor a month ago that gave him Lexapro and Xanax. We all noticed that he has been talking a lot which isn't like him.

Last week a friend went to see him and he was talking out of his head. The family sent him to the emergency room against his will. He was found to have low-sodium and was given sodium for three days and he checked himself out of hospital.

Same thing happened this week. He is confused, talking constantly, but this time hospital says his tests look ok and they can't find anything causing his confusion.

They want him checked by mental health now to evaluate him. My question is: has anyone here had this reaction to this medicine?

Thanks for any replys,

Daf

can occur in patients taking SSRIs-- of which Lexapro is one.

This also can be additive with other drugs. Some opiates also cause this
low sodium. (opiates and Tegretol are the most common)

can also be a paradoxical effect of the xanax. If he is bipolar the lexapro can incite mania.
