Hi all,
Some of you may know me from a plethora of other forums here at Braintalk as I've been coming here for a long time. However, this is my first time posting in the arthritis forum.
My name is Daniel. I primarily come to BT to discuss my epileptic seizures, but I post in many forums. I have osteoarthritis in my lower spine resulting from a weight-lifting injury (cracked vertebra) almost 20 years ago. The arthritis started setting in about 3 years ago. That old injury also healed off center so it puts pressure on the muscles and nerves in my back in addition to the pressure and impingement caused by the osteoarthritis.
I'm 35 and I'm a college student. I take the bus for an hour and a half twice a day 3 days a week. It is incredibly unpleasant between the bus stop benches, the bus seats, the poor shocks on the bus and the length of time standing or sitting at a bus stop. However, my education is important so I put up with it and take the percocet as I need it. Hard to focus in class after taking percocet though.
Namaste,
Daniel

Well, it seems this forum hardly gets posts. That's sad. I was hoping for some support for this issue, but I guess no one's really around anymore. Oh well, I guess I'll keep muddling along and check this now and then to see if activity has picked up at all.
Namaste,
Daniel

Hi Daniel, yeah I never post here about my arthritis because it is so dead here. Usually chronic pain gets my whole myriad of pain complaints lol. Mine so far is labeled as osteo but my rheumie keeps testing for RA because in some areas it behaves that way and I have widespread inflammation.
Also Emotional Support is good for just about everything, should pop in there sometime.
Daniel I hate that it has started so young for you. I helped lift a big console TV back in the late 70's and that started my downfall. I had to stop taking NSAIDS but recently was given some patches called Flector (I think, not sure just yet). I believe they are going to help me without interfering with my system.
Is it possible that your seizure meds contributed to this? Shame, I ask because I was on at least five at the same time for the longest for PN and my body took such a turn for the worst for that. I know there is nothing to be done for that if it did contribute. I was told I needed more calcium. My old timey but same age as myself doctor said that two tums a day was the cheapest form that I could take to get that calcium. It didn't take long for me to tire of TUMS taste so I switched to a better pill. Good luck, you don't need for this to keep it up, you're much to young for this to start and continue.
Keep us informed somewhere please.

Yes, it's very possible the seizure meds contributed to it. When I injured my back at 15 or 16 (it was 10th grade) my X-ray and MRI showed spondylosis or something like that (I can't remember the word, but it's a degeneration.) I hadn't been on any epilepsy meds at that point. However, the osteoarthritis and other serious problems didn't start until the last few years, around the same time that my teeth fell apart. My dentist blames my teeth falling apart on my epilepsy meds.
I'm not on any of those meds anymore. I use medical cannabis (by prescription now) to treat my epileptic seizures and to manage the pain and muscle spasms associated with the arthritis and the sciatica which the arthritis causes on both sides.
Namaste,
Daniel
and {{{HUGS}}} for the new troubles. Ahh I so worry about my own kid and her seizures. She has had restless legs forever and fibro and who knows what else besides the pancreatitis.
I don't expect a reply I just wanted you to know I understood a bit with you being so young.

I'm replying anyways. :) Yeah, it's hard at any age, but especially since I still have 8 years of school to deal with. We all have our struggles and we make it through the best we can. Maybe Obama will win and my medicine will be decriminalized for medical use.

Hi Daniel,
I am sorry that you have arthritis at such a young age.
I have just been diagnosed with arthritis in my lower spine too.
This forum seems pretty quiet but when I went on the internet I found another one that seems very active. I have read a lot of the posts there.
It's a UK address: www.arthritiscare.org.uk
I am still looking for some other arthritis forums before deciding which one to stick with.
take care,
Anne

Anne,
Thank you. The arthritis seems to be getting worse rapidly. It's to the point where my home is a mess because I can't clean much very often and my roommate works full time (so he lacks the time and energy to pick up my slack, though he tries.) I'm frustrated and seem to find no help anywhere on the net. Every forum I've visited has zero posts or my posts get ignored while others get answered. I'll check out that UK one and if I'm not the only non-European there I might stick around. Thanks for the tip.
Heck, one arthritis organization's website supposedly had doctors and patients who would answer your questions, yet I saw zero answers in the last several months and only sporadic ones prior to that. I finally answered a couple of past questions that I had answers for so at least SOMEONE there would get an answer.
Namaste,
Daniel

hi Daniel,
i just saw this thread... i'm so sorry to hear that you have such a rough time with back pain... i know from experience how bus rides can aggravate back issues... :(
every pharm. meds, as well as every natural herbs, have their side effects... short or long term... only time will say...
imho, none of them should be given first priority in our lives... alternatives methods like self-hypnosis, visualisation & meditation only have desirable side effects, they are more user-friendly, can be used everywhere, at anytime, and are much much cheaper... but, to each their own... just a thought... :o
meanwhile, i would invite you to visit some other forums we have here on BT, where i'm sure you will find useful information, as well as good support & good friends: :D

all together, we can make a difference... i wish we will, with you... ;)
i know you must be very busy with your classes, but feel free to explore these forums when you have some spare time... everyone there is very friendly and supportive... :p
