Look at me with all the new posts. I decided to start a new thread on this topic. I guess after cancelling my appt. with Cleveland Clinic, I had to feel like I was doing something to move forward on finding something for this pain.
So, I now have an appt. to try accupucture next week (at least the initial consultation with the doctor, not sure she'll do it then or not, I hope so!

Anyone here tried it and if so, what kind of luck did you have with it? I'm not expecting a cure, but some relief would be wonderful!

Today I was in my boss's office and her a/c was cranking -- I stuck a post-it note over my cheek! omg, how desperate is that?! She said "omg, look at you! You actually have a post-it stuck on your face!" and took a picture with her cell phone camera (and turned her a/c off). The picture did turn out pretty funny -- she emailed it to me, ha ha! You just gotta laugh sometimes :D!

Hi Mary, I have had very good success with acupuncture in the past 6 years or so. I live in a very rural community however we do have a great alternative health center here. I have had Classic TN for about 12 years and have been lucky to have had many long remissions. When I feel it coming on(usually with a change in weather) I book a round of appts with my accupuncturist and many times it has worked in warding off a bad spell. I have also used an herbal teatment that I ordered on-line from a company is India called Lifeforce Center. The name on the bottle is...Staphysagria 201. OK here is my disclaimer....This past January my TN was so bad that I was admitted to the hospital for several days and my meds had to be increased. I had formerly taken only Tegretol and now I am on Depakote and Tegretol.I am well into years with Tn and am thankful that I have not suffered as much as many have with constant pain.I still have accupuncture once a month and have been pain free with that and my meds since February. It is also a great stress reliever and I firmly believe that that contributes to my attacks.I care for my Mom who is not well and also a handicapped daughter in her 20's so I feel a lot of pressure to "be well". Give it a try..It is painless and very relaxing. If you have more questions about my experience feel free to contact me.
Take care, Judy

I have had fantastic results from acupuncture + intense massage therapy. I have had TN for 6 years. I had taken tegretol, trileptal and Lyrica. I have Atyp TN. I was taken off all meds and given Nortrytolene + accupuncture + massage and I have found a great reduction in constant pain and have many days where I "almost" forget I have it. That being said, Im have a twinge day today due to all the barometric changes with the storm that has hit Seattle but to answer your question, I have had great results. I also took a meditation course as well as begun adding Hot Yoga to my weekly workouts.

PS Ive been doing accupunture for a year now. At first I was warned it will appear to get worse before getting better and she was right. I went from daily pain (scale of 3-8), I mean 24/7 for 5 solid years to forgetting I have it.

I had great results a few months ago, expensive though, 100 a pop.

after 4 visits i was in remission, I will always try this first when the a-typical pain starts up.

Fantastic news to hear! It gives me hope! I'm excited to get started -- my appt. is next Tuesday! Geeze, between the cost of accupuncture and the weekly massage I'm getting regularly, this is a costly condition to have but well worth it if it works! I'm definitely willing to give it a try for the next month or two.
