I just heard an update on this story of a teenage girl in Woonsocket (about 10 miles from me) who was struck and nearly killed by a hit-and-run driver. Jessica Ferreira has been hospitalized in a coma since early last month, when she was struck as she walked her dog. Her most recent surgery (#5, I think they said) was to insert shunts for hydro, which resulted from the swelling of her brain, which occurred as a result of head injuries she suffered in the crash. Police are still looking for the driver. :( Please pray for this girl and her family.

I'll be praying for her and I hope that they find the driver responsible for
this.:(

How's the girl doing? Any more updates? I hope she's okay and they
caught the person responsible!

Hey, Gina. :)

I haven't heard any more, actually. Not sure if that's good or bad. I'll try to find out and let you know. Thanks for asking. :)

I just saw this: http://www.woonsocketcall.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=17280291&BRD=1712&PAG=461&dept_id=24361&rfi=6 and wanted to share it with y'all. It's nearly 2 weeks old, so no new info, but you can comment.

LIZARD, praying for the family...:(

I really hope they catch the driver that did this! I also think that the driver
should meet Jessica and her family face-to-face. The problem with most
hit-and-run incidents, whether they involve drunk driving or not, is that
the drivers that cause these events never see the victims of their careless
actions.

And another thing: I really hate the term, "hit-and-run accidents".
If you hit someone with your car and stop to see if the person's all right,
it's an "accident"-you didn't mean to do it. If you hit someone with your
car and keep on going, it's a crime! And, yet, all hit-and-runs are
classified as "accidents". There has to be a distinction made between a
crash/collision that was driver error and one that is a criminal act.

Okay, I'll get off of my soapbox now.

Right on, Gina. I agree with every word.
