I had posted a similar query on bipolar posts but received no responses so I'll try here. Anyone have any info or experience using lecithin or phosphytidal choline for mood stabilization? Taking fish oil, flax oil, magnesium citrate, levothroid, manganese, B6, zinc, glycine and Klonopin. Bad reactions to every drug used to stabilize mood and Klonopin, at the dose I take, is giving me problems, too. Thanks.

good morning markpilnick,

:) please be patient, as it may take a few days for someone to do some serious search in order to answer you intelligently... and give you good links...

:) in alternative medicines, as well as in traditional medicine, there are lots of contradictory information available on the internet and in books...

:) some years ago, my homeopath was giving me someting for mood swings, which was also treating other related conditions treated w the same homeo. med. (asthma and migraines before and during t-storms)... it was phosphorus... but i don't recommend that you try anything on your own without seeing an homeopath or a naturopatic doctor, as different dosages as well as frequency will act at a different level... and the appropriate homeo. med. for your own condition may be another one... according to homeopathy, as well as to chinese medicine and other ancient traditional medicines... if you treat the basic disorder, related disorders will disappear... then, you can work at a different level of symptoms... like when you strip antique furniture... which makes sense...

:) and like for any pharm. meds., natural meds. will serve you well for a while, then you have to try something else, as your condition has changed (sometimes for best, sometimes for worst)

p.s. i don't have an official dx of bipolar disorder as i haven't seen the same dr long enough for him to dx me... and i react very badly to all pharm. meds., to all chemicals and to lots of foods, incl. all what's serves as a base for dry and liquid meds.

:) good luck w your search... and i will follow up on this thread, the one on flax, as well as BT food court... as i'm very interested in omega-3 foods... i realize that i'm learning a lot since i joined BT in april

Lecithin may only be a drop when a bucket is needed. Both my daughters are being helped by EM Power. The doctor just added TAs (Genesa's Total Amino Solution). However, one daughter's problems affecting her brain (labeled "schizoaffective" of a purely biological etiology) are quite complex and testing is required to determine what is needed. She needed hormones and dietary changes and extra specific supplements such as methylated B vitamins.

Hi there, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I stumbled upon using choline to control bipolar disorder after I found an article about how some researchers where having success with it on some volunteers. I'm bipolar 2, and like you, I have tried every thing under the sun to get help. Antidepressants will cause me hypomania and benzos make me psychotic only after a few days. I can't take any of it. I was taking lithium and that worked well until I started having kidney problems, fortunately I found choline just in time.

When I first started taking it, I took too much. I bought a bottle of choline made by twinlabs in 300mg capsules. That initially made my hypomanic but then quickly made me depressed. The trick is to take less then 50mg. At that level, it will keep you from going manic or depressed. I can even take it with things that would normally make me manic like prednisone, and it will keep me from going manic.

I highly suspect that there is a connection between bipolar disorder that is triggered by antidepressants, and Myasthenia gravis. I'll post more on that latter, but I have symptoms of both like a lazy eye. Norepinephrine seems to be a hot button for me, and any drug like Effexor seems to trigger mania. I can even go manic taking an amino acid called tyrosine, which is a precursor to Norepinephrine.

I’m also experimenting with tyrosine to induce hypomania on purpose, to try and control it and use it to my advantage. Still working on that though.

nonconformist, good morning and welcome on BT forums

that would be interesting that you keep us posted w your further findings on choline for bipolar disorder, links, etc...

could you also post the info on the bipolar disorder forum, as many people only visit forums directly related to their condition... and it's much easier to find something when w do a search when info is posted on the specific forums... ;)

thanks for taking the time to share your experience and to provide this info :)

have a wondeful day, no matter what!!!
