Hi all, my cousin has been diagnosed with RA in her leg and now it has moved to her left arm. She has no health insurance and has been denied a number of times for disability and Medicaid. She lives in Mississippi and it is a tad convoluted how their system works. Her husband works but makes little money and they have kind of an odd relationship. He doesn't give her money for anything. I mean almost nothing. Her father gives her money on the sly but he doesn't have much either. Anyway, she has to drive for over an hour and a half to get 2 shots that costs her $3700 a month. I believe they are Humira. That is money that they definitely doesn't have. She has tried contacting the medical companies but they won't help. I remember seeing somewhere here at BT some places that may be able to help but I don't remember where I saw them. Can anybody help me?

Christina, if your cousin is getting shots of humira, she can give them to herself. Below is a link for info. Most drug companies have assistance programs based on income. If her husband is making more than the allowable they can't or wont help. There is also a program that Montel Williams is involved with and I can't remember the name, they have a wider range of benefits with higher income limits.
RA is a diagnosis which is disabling and she should apply for Social Security. Medicaid is income based so her Husband could be making too much money for her to qualify. The income limits are pretty low! I am on Social Security and don't qualify. This sounds a bit harsh, but she may be better off divorcing her husband to receive the benefits she needs. I am not sure if that is a possibility.
I will try to remember the name of the program or do some searching for you. I am so sorry she is going thru this. My kids Step Mom has RA an still works full time for Fed ex.

I know this is not going to help much with the shots. But I got more help with Walgreen's than any body out there. I get a 90 day supply of meds and it cost me 8.99 for a 90 days. Or 12.99 for a month for something you take once a day. My BP pills were 60. a month now I pay for a 90 day supply for $8.99. But there is only one med I have to pay full price and that is my perc. Because they are 7.5/325 it is 98.00. And I get my lidoderm patches free from the co. But they have to send it to your dr's office and not your house. some rule of theirs. I hope you find help for her. I know how much it can but you back$$$$$$$$.

There also the organization that Montel Williams works with ~ it's PPA. Trouble is, I can't remember the phone number or what PPA stands for! LOL But they DO help with medications of every kind, sometimes paying the whole amount! Perhaps information would have the listing ~ I don't know. Wish i could help more. Hugs, Lee
