More than 2 years ago, I was dxd with MS. I have had sx for a loooong time, and happy to get some answers. I have had extremely dry skin/eyes/lips/mouth/stools/thick skin for a while but could live with it. About a year ago, my eyes became so dry I felt like my eye lids were made of sandpaper. its PAINFUL. They are red, raw and killing me! its hard to blink when there is no moisture. I gave up and went for the eye plugs. The eye surgeon said WOW, I bet you have sjogrens. I said um, no...I have MS. She said, hmmm, I bet you have sjogrens, and called my MD who got six buckets of blood. ALL blood tests were normal. I thought I was off the hook. The MD says he wont rule it out or in, and sends me to a rheumy. She takes one look and says OUCH! those eyes look painful. when are you going for your plugs? I told her I have had them in for a week now.
We play 20 questions, do a full exam, and she says "yep! you have sjogrens. The question is primary or secondary. If its secondary, its a rider off of the MS, and if primary then its INSTEAD OF MS! :eek: She told me i have 3 of 6 markers without the blood test. She wants to discuss my MS dx with the big boys at the MS center before sending me for a lip biospy, which she is pretty sure will come back positive.
I have been told that IF i have another MS style flair, i am to be admitted to the hospital for 3 days of IV methotrexate while monitored, and then will be released on a taper of pills. WHAT IS THAT? Has anyone else had it?
So, my head is spining. I found myself in yet another world of auto immune diseases that I dont know anything about. I have more reading to do.
