Hello Friends,
I have in the past year developed something new in my 22 years of living with tn. Ear Pain. Started with an MRSA staph infection (resistant toa ntibiotics). I've developed a choleseatoma, a cyst or tumor behind the ear that needs surgical removal before it invades the brain. It has been very painful, eardrum ruptured many times, is now destroyed. I did something I had sworn I'd never do, which was let anyone physically touch my face -- I had acupuncture. Oh my God. What had been sharp stabbing pain has turned into a strong continuous electrical shock in my ear. Thank God my doctor is sympathetic and has given me whopping narcotic prescriptions which dampen down the shock a good bit.

To the point: I am on Lyrica, working up to 600 mg. a day. Also Namenda at 20 mg. a day. Question: Do you have experience with these two drugs, and have they helped you; and at what dosages? They are, at the moment, my only hope. My narcotic tolerance is very high and doc says these scrips are IT, he will go no higher. Tegretol was the magic bullet for me twenty years ago, but it gave me serious total lliver failure, came very close to death and liver is still bad. None of the other drugs helped me, either, only narcotics.
This is pain I never imagined. I thought the sharp stabs were bad. Oh, I'd give anything to go back to those. Seriously, it is just like when you touch something electric that has shorted out and it gives you a shock. This is a very strong shock and it just doesn't stop. Please, please, help me, if you can.

Gosh, I wish you weren't having such a hard time! I'm taking Lyrica since July. My normal dose is 75mg twice a day and I've had pretty good luck with it. Having said that, I do up the meds by 25-50mg at each dose if my TN is really active or if the breakthrough pain is getting bad. Your dose is quite a bit higher than mine. How long have you been taking it? Do you get any relief from it at all?

Take care and big hugs to you! Ellena

Lyrica saved my life this summer. I have had TN for about 5 years but hadnt had a flare in 2 years. With my chiropractor and lyrica I am pain free!!!
