I am taking B12 shots weekly right not. I take lysine as needed for mouth ulcers. Otherwise, I do not regularly take anything (I was taking a B complex (with B12) prior to the B12 def. diagnosis but discontinued it for now). I am thinking I probably need a multivitamin, especially since my appetite sucks right now. I am gluten free and need to be dairy free. Any suggestions? TIA

I would choose a reliable brand in a form I know I would take. I move around between multi vitamins because I haven't found one that I consider perfect for me. And what would be near perfect for me might not be for you.

But I would take some reliable multi and be on the lookout for anything better for you. And I would take a B complex. And of course, oral B12 at a different time of day in at least 1000 mcg dose.

Right now I am not taking oral B12 because my doctor wants to evaluate what the shots are doing for me in a couple of weeks. At that time, I will discuss oral supplementation with B12. I have a Bcomplex that does not have B12 that I am going to resume. I am looking at the VitaminShoppe multis but none indicate that are gluten-free, only wheat free. So, I guess I am going to shell out twice as much for Rainbow Light or Enzymatic Therapies. Both are gluten free.

Is the doc planning to test you? If so, how?

Yes, I will have another blood test on B12. It was 309 a month ago.

Just make sure they don't think that if you don't immediately recover with shots that you do not need B12. That, unbelievably, is a common misconception held by doctors --- as if damage done over a long period of time will be gone after a few shots.
