I now have SP MS. I now use a Jazzy power chair, and my husband gets me in and out of bed and on the toilet using an Invacare (Hoyer type) lift. I use a sling with a hole in the bottom and heavy chains to hitch to the lift. I sit on the sling all day (with no underpants) , and sleep on the sling at night. Needless to say it does not make a very good bed fellow with the metal bars and chains.

I want a toileting lift, but think I need something that has support for the upper back. I can't quite imagine being hoisted out of bed with only something around my waist area--I think I would be hanging almost backwards.

It's hard to visualize from the pictures on the web exactly how various slings would work. I would like to be able to sit in the chair with the sling on, yet not visible. Also it would enable me to wear underpants and slacks.

Anyone with any experience and advice would be much appreciated!!!ube there is another

Added om edit: Maybe there is anther forum I should post this on. I guess there is no one else with MS who is in a wheelchair, and has to use a lift and sling.

Hi janebee,
I am also in a wheelchair now, but can still get up and take a few steps (barely) using a walker. Toileting is a challenge when you have major weakness and very bad balance, so I understand how you're feeling. I have a heck of a time getting up and keeping balance long enough to pull up my pants! Add incontinence to the mix and . . . UGH!:(

I have heard about houses that have tracking installed in the ceiling for moving patients about but I'm sure it's very expensive.

This gear looks interesting and somewhat comfortable.

I don't know much about slings, so can't really give you any input, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone. Life with MS can sure be challenging.

Take care,
Joan

You might want to leave the post here. I think its just that most people don't use a sling. Hopefully more people will see it and give you even more information. Keep it on the front page by adding a post every so often.

Private messages are at the top right of the page. Right under where it probably says "Welcome, janebee."
