It is a constant battle to not gain weight under normal circumstances, but add chronic intractable pain and limited mobility to that and it is a losing battle.

I am on an excellent diet, except when I cheat. It is to control my pre-diabetes, which it has. It is mainly organic and no white carbs (sugar, white flour, potatoes, etc.). Even with the good diet, I cannot get my weight down because I am not that active.

Has anyone some good tips?

No good tips....Just wanted to say I can relate.
prior to my back surgery I gained 35 lbs in a very short time topping me at an all time high weight for me.

I was un-able to exercise and did not really seem to want to diet as it felt like I had nothing much to look forward to & so many bad things w/ the pain that I did not want to deprive myself from whatever I wanted to eat.

Since the 4 yrs that I have had the back surgery I lost the weight I gained in a yr period or so.
I now stick to a lower carb (not totally carb free) diet.
I walk when I can as well in doors or on the treadmill.

Hi Looking up, just go easy on yourself hun, I know weight gain aint a nice thing and it can in fact hinder some problems, but loads of medications can cause weight gain unfortunatley, all I can suggest is keep on doing what your already doing diet wise hun but at the same time dont deprive yourself of anything, just adjust the portion size, and just try an do whatever gentle excersice you can, when you can. Only thing I will suggest to you hun is that maybe you should discuss this with your doctor and get some advice regarding the diet and excersice. Take care and hope things settle down for you soon hun. Demi aka Welsh X

Looking up, Demi is right about some of our meds causing weight gain and I know how it has caused my weight gain. A lack of adequate exercise does make it very tough but even a little bit helps. Just do what you can whenever you can along with letting your diet become a habit you don't have to think about or cheat on. One thing you could try would be swimming as it is great exercise and doesn't put pressure on your body. It even relives some pain for people that can swim.

Lynne,

It is so true that meds cause weight gain. It is also true they may slow us down as much as the pain does, but as Mark said do what ever you can when you can. Even a bit of stretches learned from a physical therapist. I find it difficult to maintain or even lose weight due to my diet. I am working to get it to be a habit and to allow myself a sweet a day. I have been choosing to have yogurt as a snack.

Take care and don't get too down on yourself,
Kathy

I can sure relate to this. Too bad we can't be fat & happy! It's depressing to lose our body image as well as our energy, but some things we just have to accept I think.

Be kind to yourself!

Colonic Irrigations my friends!!!!

Once I learned that the oxycontin I am taking was parking themselves into my colon, making it virtuously impossible to take a dump, I knew right them it was colonic irrigation time.

The CI that I give myself is not of the quality you get at any hospital but it's pretty damn good.

In the hospital they do it right. They stick tubes WAY up your colon and plumb and plumb for a while. What I do is take the shower head off the shower hose and screw in a male 1/2" extension. I turn the water on, place my foot on the edge of the tub, grab my *** cheek with my free hand to "open" things up a bit more and yes, I stick the 1/2" extension into my butt and plumb away.

It only goes in MAYBE 1/2" but that's enough for water to get in there. I keep going until the water makes me feel like I REALLY gotta go. When that happens, I drop everything and turn off the water. Then I hop out of the tub and onto the toliet and away I go.

Do you know how GREAT it is to be sitting on the toilet one minute straining to go to the bathroom. Then the next minute on the toilet finally letting everything go??? It's great.

If it's your first time, I recommend doing it like 20 times cause it's not until your 20th time that you get that DEEP sludge stuff that has been in your body for weeks!!!

When you think about it, crap really doesn't reek or smell THAT bad. Just stinks a little. When you get into that deep sludge on your 20th time....the whole bathroom will reek BAD. You have to do it 20 times cause you are only getting in like 1/2" of the way into your colon, not like in a hospital where they go DEEP.

I'm living proof it works and works well. I'm skinny and limber so it's easy for me. If you are a bigger person it might be harder for you to do but I highly recommend the home colonic irrigation.

It is frustrating to me, especially since I would like to look good for my youngest son's wedding in October. It looks like I can wear something besides my clunky orthotic shoes by then. I can do some soft exercises. I do need to accept myself as I am. I wear a size 12, so am not really that overweight, just not up to my standards.

Yeah- the meds make me pack the weight on. I think that I am on at least one - Zoloft - that has weight gain as a side effect. No I am not going to do a colonic. Maybe I can find one that has weight loss as a side effect!

Of course there is the constant battle with constipation, which does not help the situation.

Don't live in denial, please.

Male extensions are ones with the threads are on the outside, they get shoved INTO things like a penis. Female extensions have the threads on the inside and they have things shoved INSIDE them like vaginas.

If you have a shower head connected to a shower hose, the shower head has a male end and the shower hose has a female end. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's or any hardware store and buy a male extension where one side has a 1/2" extension. THAT part is gonna screw into your shower hose. The other end is gonna screw into your assssshole. THAT end you want as small as possible. For instance, my extension is a 1/2" by 1/4". This is a pic of what you are shopping for:

http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImage/fcb73d8f-05ac-451d-abe6-65ee837328a0_300.jpg

As long as one end is 1/2", try to make the other end as small as possible (3/8, 1/4).

It takes a good 20 times the first time you plumb your colorn casue you are plumbing such a small portion of your colon but an important part.....then end of it. It's SO worth it when you get to the motherload. Afterwards on a monthly basis you are looking at maybe 10 times tops for maitenance. Laxatives work but stop working after a time, this is a sure thing each and every time.

I really wish someone tried it soloely on the info given in this post. I guarentee results. Stop these young girls from sticking their fingers down their throats and making their bodies do unnatural things and plumb your colon and help your body do something it's supposed to do but much, much better. Please post results. If it's your first time and you do, do 20+ times and get to the "sludge" portion of your colon, I guarenteee you will knock off a few pounds.

We've all read/heard stories about The "Duke" John Wayne and Elvis Presley and all of the impacted fectal matter that they died with that was stuck inside their systems.

I fall getting into the bathroom. I can't even start to imagine trying that number. Best wishes.
